Toon In with Me is an American live action/anthology television series created by Neal Sabin for MeTV and MeTV Plus.[1][2] A special preview episode aired on January 1, 2021, with the main series officially debuting on January 4, 2021.
The show will be hosted in live-action segments by MeTV’s “cartoon curator” Bill, along with his puppet friend Toony the Tuna. Each episode includes five animated shorts from classic shows (with properties like Paramount, MGM, and WBD) including Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, Tom and Jerry, Betty Boop, Popeye, The Pink Panther, The Inspector, Color Rhapsodies, and many more others. Premise and characters[edit]
Toon In with Me is reminiscent of locally produced children’s programs that aired from the 1930s through the 1990s, with a live-action host, comedy and puppet segments interspersed with classic cartoons.
The show will be hosted at MeTV studios by Bill the Cartoon Curator (played by Bill Leff).[4]
His co-host is Toony (played by Kevin Fleming), a cartoon-loving tuna puppet that Bill has to take care of while Toony’s owner, Goldie Fisher (Leila Gorstein), is on a world tour. While presenting all the cartoons, Bill and Toony deal with various problems in the studio, video chat with Goldie and get useful information from game show host Mr. Quizzer (also played by Fleming). Fleming and Gorstein also play many other characters.
Each episode (with the exception of “MeTV’s Cartoon Kick-Off Show”) contains five classic animated shorts and ends with Bill and Toony showing drawings and photos submitted by fans through the show’s website.
On Friday June 24, 2022 Leila Gorstein left the show in the episode “Farewell Goldie” and when Leila left the show so did some of her characters like Boxcar, Lorna Green and others.

Sventoonie, a Toon In with Me spin-off television series as well as the Me TV hosted horror film series Svengoolie, premiered on Me TV on March 26, 2022. Sventoonie is also moderated by Leff as the same characters (named Toony) alongside Fleming Sventoonie). In the series, Leff and Sventoonie provide their reviews of classic horror films from the Svengoolie set.[5]

Beginning in early January, Toon In With Me will feature Leff and a few other characters performing original comedy skits leading into the best animated classics from Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety and Roadrunner.
For the eternally youthful Leff, a well-known pop culture fan and collector, the role evokes a golden era of Chicago television, including legendary children’s show hosts Ray Rayner and Bill Jackson, among others.
“As a kid, I was late for school every morning because I couldn’t stop watching Ray Rayner’s show,” said Leff, who grew up in Oak Forest and now resides in Evanston. “I felt like he was speaking directly to me. Then, after school, the brilliance of Bill Jackson’s “Cartoon Town” was just so influential in who I would eventually become.
“Toon In With Me is a tribute to both of them. It’s part Ray Rayner, part Cartoon Town, part Pee Wee’s Playhouse, and part Sea Hunt. There’s something for everyone,” he said.
Until last November, Leff co-hosted Lunchtime with Wendy Snyder on Nexstar Media Group News/Talk WGN 720-AM. The two have been podcasting for Cumulus Media Chicago since February. Their bi-weekly shows continue on wlsam.com and iTunes.
Toon In With Me is the latest creation from Neal Sabin, Vice Chairman of Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting and the genius behind MeTV, which Weigel debuted here in 2003. It has been a fully-fledged national network since 2010 and now ranks among the top 5 cable networks in the country, with an audience of 27 million weekly viewers.
“It’s launching just after our 10th anniversary [nationally] and should really resonate with both boomers and those who love classic cartoons,” Sabin said of the new morning show. “I think the writing is great and will work on adult and kid levels, just like the Warner cartoons.”
Sabin acknowledged that he created most of the characters and spirit of the new show. “We have a great team of writers and others on the show,” he said. “I’ll make sure some cakes get thrown and the puns fly too.”
Also joining the cast are Kevin Fleming, whose comedy writers include writing the Warner Bros. animated series The New Looney Tunes, and Leila Gorstein, who has performed as part of The Second City Touring Company and most recently as Co-wrote and starred in the romantic parody film Love Dump.
“‘Toon In With Me’ will evoke the hosted children’s shows of decades past, blending nostalgia, fun, charm, comedy and animation, reimagined with new, original live-action characters,” added Sabin. “It all adds up to a new program for viewers of all ages who are ready to share the fun and positive energy on weekday mornings together.”
MeTV also announced plans to debut Saturday Morning Cartoons, a three-hour block of cartoons — without a studio host.
