10 facts about Brendan Buck

Brendan Rodgers

Northern Ireland football manager (born 1973)

This article is about the Northern Ireland football manager. For other people with the same name, see Brendan Rodgers (disambiguation)

Brendan Rodgers (born 26 January 1973) is a Northern Ireland professional footballer and former player who is manager of Premier League club Leicester City.

Rodgers began his career as a defender with Ballymena United, where he remained until signed by Reading aged 18, although a genetic knee condition forced him to retire aged 20. He remained with Reading as manager and then academy director, and played non-league football in Newport, Witney Town and Newbury Town for several years. After spending some time traveling around Spain studying coaching methods, he was invited by José Mourinho to leave Reading and join Chelsea as youth manager in 2004, where he was promoted to reserve manager in 2006.

In 2008 he was appointed manager of Watford, where he remained until 2009 when he accepted an offer to become manager of his former club Reading. Six months later he left the club by mutual consent after some disappointing results. In 2010 he returned to management with Swansea City and guided the club to promotion to the Premier League, the first Welsh side to do so, before guiding them to 11th place the following season. On 1 June 2012, Rodgers accepted an offer to become the new manager of Liverpool, whom he guided to second place in the league in the 2013–14 season before his sacking in October 2015. He became manager of Celtic in May 2016 and led Celtic to an unbeaten domestic season in his freshman year and trebled in his first two seasons. He left Celtic for Leicester City in February 2019 and won the 2021 FA Cup in his second full season.

Early life[edit]

Rodgers was born in the coastal village of Carnlough in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.[2] His father, Malachy, was a painter and decorator, while his mother, Christina, volunteered for the Irish charity Trócaire. Rodgers is the eldest of five boys. His younger brother, Malachy, became a well-known local country and western singer and now pursues a career in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.[5] He grew up a supporter of Sheffield Wednesday[6] and Celtic.[7]

Rodgers was raised Catholic. He attended St. John’s Catholic Primary School, Carnlough, and then transferred to St. Patrick’s College, Ballymena until the age of 16.[8] His mother died in 2010 at the age of 53, and in September 2011, Rodgers was at his father’s side when he died of cancer at the age of 59.

Career as a player[ edit ]

As a teenager, Rodgers represented Northern Ireland at school level, notably playing against Brazil in 1988. He began his senior career in 1987 as a defender for Ballymena United, his local team.[11] Three years later, aged 18, he was signed by Reading where he played in the reserve. His professional playing career ended at the age of 20 due to a genetic knee disease. Following this forced retirement, Rodgers spent several years playing in non-league football for Newport (IOW), Witney Town and Newbury Town while remaining at Reading as youth coach. He found employment with John Lewis to support his young family.[17]

Coaching career[edit]

Rodgers spent much time traveling around Spain studying different coaching methods and was eventually invited by manager José Mourinho to give up his role as academy director at Reading and join Chelsea Academy as head youth coach in 2004 on the recommendation of Mourinho’s assistant and future Premier League manager Steve Clarke.[12] Rodgers was promoted to reserve team manager two years later and was retained in that position by eventual Chelsea managers Avram Grant and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Manager career[edit]

Watford[ edit ]

On 24 November 2008, Rodgers left Chelsea to become manager of Championship club Watford. Rodgers won just two of his first ten league games as manager, leaving Watford in the relegation zone until January. However, Watford’s form improved dramatically and Rodgers was able to move her to 13th place, avoiding relegation.

read [edit]

Weeks after guaranteeing Watford’s survival and following Steve Coppell’s resignation as Reading manager, Rodgers quickly became the favorite to succeed him and returned to his old club. He initially distanced himself from reports linking him to the job, saying that his “focus [is] completely on Watford”.[21][22] However, he eventually agreed to a deal to become Reading’s new manager on 5 June 2009 after agreeing a pay package with Watford initially valued at £500,000, which later rose to £1million. The Watford Supporters’ Trust said the supporters felt Rodgers’ reputation was “seriously damaged” by the move, but they “thanked (Rodgers) for his efforts last season” and “(wished) him well” . the future”.[25] On 11 August, Rodgers achieved his first win as Reading manager with a 5–1 win over League Two’s Burton Albion in the first round of the League Cup. Despite a good start in the League, one followed disappointing string of results and Rodgers left Reading by mutual consent on 16 December, just over six months after his arrival, with Reading one place above relegation in the Championship.

Swansea City[ edit ]

Rodgers accepted an offer to become manager of Championship side Swansea City on 16 July 2010. Prior to this appointment, he was asked to join the Manchester City coaching staff under Roberto Mancini.[28] His start as Swansea manager was very successful and resulted in Rodgers being named Championship Manager of the Month in February 2011 after Swansea won five of their six league games that month while conceding four goals. By 25 April 2011 Rodgers had managed to comfortably secure Swansea City’s spot in the 2011 Championship Play-Offs for promotion to the Premier League with a convincing 4–1 win over Ipswich Town at the Liberty Stadium.

On 16 May 2011, Rodgers led Swansea to the 2011 Championship play-off final as favorites after beating underdogs Nottingham Forest by two legs in the semi-finals. He faced his old club Reading in the final at Wembley Stadium on 30 May 2011, who Swansea won 4–2 thanks in part to a hat-trick by Scott Sinclair, meaning Swansea became the first Welsh team ever to reach the Premier League promoted.[32] Rodgers was lauded by the media and supporters for comforting Reading manager Brian McDermott and owner John Madejski before receiving the trophy.

Rodgers’ first win as Premier League manager came on 17 September 2011 when Swansea beat West Bromwich Albion 3–0 at the Liberty Stadium. Although many predicted before the start of the season that Swansea would be the favorites to be relegated, their debut season proved very impressive as they picked up points against Liverpool, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea and kept them well above the relegation zone. 36][37][38] In January 2012, Swansea clinched their first away win of the season at Aston Villa, a month in which they also beat Arsenal 3-2 at home and held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw. This earned Rodgers his first Premier League Manager of the Month award.[39][40][41] In February, Rodgers signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract to keep him at the club until July 2015.[42]

Liverpool [edit]

2012–13 season[edit]

Rodgers with Liverpool in 2014

On 1 June 2012, Rodgers was unveiled as Liverpool’s new manager on a three-year deal after Kenny Dalglish left two weeks earlier. Rodgers’ appointment was immediately backed by former colleague and Real Madrid manager José Mourinho.[45] In July 2012, Rodgers wrote an open letter to Swansea City supporters, thanking both staff and supporters for his time at the club and wishing them all the best for the future. Days later, Rodgers held his first training session at Melwood as the roster reported back for preseason training.

On 2 August 2012, Rodgers oversaw his first competitive game as Liverpool manager, a 1–0 UEFA Europa League win over Belarusian club Gomel, and a week later won his first home game in charge in the second leg. In his first league game as manager on 18 August, Liverpool lost 3–0 to West Brom at The Hawthorns. His first league win came against Norwich City at Carrow Road, Liverpool won 5-2. On 31 October Rodgers welcomed his former club Swansea to Anfield in the fourth round of the League Cup, a game Liverpool lost 3-1. On 6 December, Liverpool defeated Udinese 1–0 in the Europa League to qualify as group winners for the round of 32. [53]

On 27 January 2013, Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round, surprisingly losing 3–2 to League One side Oldham Athletic. Liverpool finished seventh in their first season in the Premier League, up one position from the previous season.[55]

2013–14 season[edit]

At the start of the 2013/14 season, Rodgers was named Premier League Manager of the Month for August 2013 as Liverpool won their first three league games of the season. In January 2014, he was fined £8,000 after making comments to referee Lee Mason after a 2–1 defeat by Manchester City in December 2013. He was later named Manager of the Month for the second time that season in March 2014 after Liverpool won all five games that month to climb to the top of the Premier League.

A streak of 11 straight wins for Liverpool left them five points clear at the top of the Premier League with just three games left.[59] However, on April 27, they suffered a 2-0 home loss to Chelsea. That result gave Manchester City the advantage in the title race. In their next game away at Crystal Palace on 5 May, Liverpool led 3–0 with 11 minutes to go but the game ended 3–3. Liverpool finished the season runners-up in the Premier League, two points behind champions Manchester City.[62]

Liverpool scored 101 league goals in the season, the club’s most since the 1895–96 season and the third-highest in Premier League history. Later that month, Rodgers was named LMA Manager of the Year, becoming the first Liverpool manager to receive the award in their 20-year history. On May 26, 2014, Rodgers signed a new four-year deal at Liverpool.

2014–15 season[edit]

Liverpool were eliminated from the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League after drawing against Basel in the final group game and dropped to the Europa League. The Reds were subsequently eliminated in the Europa League round of 16 after losing to Turkish side Beşiktaş 4–5 on penalties. On 19 April 2015, Liverpool were defeated by Aston Villa in the FA Cup semifinals. Liverpool ended the season with a 6-1 loss to Stoke to finish sixth in the Premier League. This meant Rodgers became the first Liverpool manager since the 1950s not to win a trophy after three seasons in charge. Despite this, Rodgers received the support of Liverpool’s owners.

2015–16 season[edit]

On 4 October 2015, Liverpool played their 225th Merseyside derby against Everton, the game again ending in a 1–1 draw. This was the fifth time in Liverpool’s last six games that they had taken a 1-0 lead and then ended the game in a 1-1 draw. while they had just one win in their previous nine games. Just an hour into the game, Rodgers was sacked, leaving Liverpool in tenth place after eight games played. It later emerged that the decision to sack him had been taken before the Everton game.[74] The following day, Rodgers released a statement through the League Managers Association, which said: “I’m obviously incredibly disappointed to be leaving… [but] it’s been both an honor and a privilege to manage one of the great clubs in the game.” .”[75]

Rodger’s Liverpool signings included James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Divock Origi and Mario Balotelli.[76]

Celtic [ edit ]

2016–17 season[edit]

Rodgers with Celtic in 2018

Rodgers was appointed manager of Scottish Premiership champions Celtic on 20 May 2016 following the departure of Ronny Deila on a rolling 12-month contract. On arrival in Glasgow, Rodgers spoke of his admiration for the late Tommy Burns, the former Celtics player and manager who was in charge of Reading when Rodgers began his coaching career.

On 12 July, Celtic lost 1–0 away to Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar in their first competitive game in charge, in the first leg of their 2016–17 Champions League second qualifying round. He said of the surprising result: “There is obvious disappointment. There is no embarrassment.” [80] Celtic overcame their one-goal deficit with a 3–0 win at Celtic Park. On 23 August 2016, Celtic qualified for the group stage of the 2016–17 Champions League for the first time in three years after a 5–4 aggregate win over Hapoel Be’er Sheva. This was Brendan Rodgers’ heaviest defeat and the worst result for Celtic in European competition.

On 31 December 2016, Rodgers became the first manager in Celtic history to win his first three games against Rangers. That victory meant Celtic were 19 points clear in the 2016/17 Scottish Premiership table with a game in hand. On 2 April 2017, Celtic defeated Hearts 5–0 to secure their sixth consecutive league title with eight games remaining. Five days later, Rodgers signed a new four-year deal with Celtic.

As Celtic’s unbeaten run continued domestically, they subjected Rangers to their heaviest defeat at Ibrox since 1915, beating their rivals 5–1 on April 29. Celtic’s 2–0 win over Hearts on May 21 saw them go with a record 106 points, 30 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen in the league, and the team became the first Scottish team to go unbeaten in a top-flight season since 1899. 90] On 27 May 2017, Celtic defeated Aberdeen 2–1 to lift the Scottish Cup, securing a domestic treble for the fourth time in their history and finishing the 2016–17 season unbeaten in all domestic competitions.

Season 2017–18[edit]

On November 4, 2017, Rodgers led Celtic to a 4–0 win over St Johnstone. This win meant Celtic were unbeaten in their last 63 domestic games. The win also meant they surpassed the 100-year British record for consecutive unbeaten matches, also held by Willie Maley’s Celtic team, set at 62 in 1917. On 26 November 2017, Rodgers won his fourth consecutive trophy as manager when Celtic beat Motherwell 2–0 in the 2017 Scottish League Cup Final. Rodgers became the first manager in club history to win his first four domestic trophies and also stretched the unbeaten domestic record to 65 games. That unbeaten run eventually ended after 69 games, culminating in a 4-0 loss to Hearts.

On April 29, 2018, Rodgers secured his second and Celtic’s seventh consecutive league title with a 5–0 win over Rangers at Celtic Park. This win also extended Celtic’s unbeaten run against Rangers to 12 games. The season ended with Rodgers winning the first ‘double treble’ (a treble in two consecutive seasons) in Scottish football history on 19 May 2018 with a 2–0 win in the Scottish Cup final against Motherwell.

Season 2018–19[edit]

Rodgers said he turned down an offer from a Chinese club in the summer of 2018. He told BBC Scotland: “It’s a lot of money with China but I’ve found my fortune here.”[97] After failing to qualify for the Champions League,[98] Celtic qualified runners-up from UEFA’s group stage Europa League.[99] They were beaten 3-0 on aggregate by Valencia in the Round of 32. Celtic won the Scottish League Cup in December 2018, Rodgers seventh consecutive trophy with the club. In February 2019, when Celtic were leading the Premier League by eight points, Rodgers left Celtic for English Premier League side Leicester City.

Leicester City[edit]

Season 2018–19[edit]

In February 2019, Rodgers was appointed manager of Leicester City following the sacking of Claude Puel. Rodger’s first game in charge of The Foxes was on March 3, 2019 away against former club Watford. The game ended in a 2–1 loss, with Andre Gray scoring a winner for the Hornets in the 92nd minute. In Rodgers’ home debut, his second game in charge, Leicester won 3-1 over the struggling Fulham. Striker Jamie Vardy scored his 100th goal for the club in the game.

Season 2019-20[edit]

On December 6, 2019, Rodgers signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2025. At the time the contract was signed, his team had racked up 7 straight wins and were second in the table after 15 Premier League games. In his first full season, Rodgers led Leicester to fifth place and qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League.[108]

Season 2020–21 [ edit ]

They started the 2020/21 season strongly, defeating Manchester City 5-2 away on 27 September 2020, meaning Rodgers is the first manager whose team has scored 5 goals against a Pep Guardiola-managed team. In Europe, Leicester managed to win the Europa League group with Braga, AEK Athens and Zorya Luhansk to reach the last 16 but they were defeated by Slavia Prague after a 0-0 draw in the Czech Republic and a 0-2 draw -Home game eliminates loss.[110]

On 15 May 2021, he guided Leicester City to their first FA Cup title in their history after beating Chelsea 1–0 in the final. The end of the league season saw a bitter battle between Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool for the remaining UEFA Champions League spots. Despite being in third place for most of the season, Leicester fell back to 5th place after a 2–1 defeat by Chelsea in the penultimate round after Liverpool’s 3–0 win over Burnley, with Leicester and Liverpool tied on points and Chelsea in third place took a lone point.[112] Despite Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa that gave them a chance of a fourth-place finish, Leicester were unable to capitalize on a dramatic 4-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur after being 2-1 up to Kasper Schmeichel’s own goal : 1 lead came in the 76th minute, paired with a brace from Gareth Bale. So Leicester finished fifth again and qualified for the Europa League.[113]

Management style[edit]

Rodgers believes in his team holding the ball and playing fluid passing and attacking with the ball always moving; Defensively, he likes it when his team puts a lot of pressure on the opposing team.[114]

His Liverpool team went from 4–5–1 to 3–5–2 to 4–4–2 to 4–3–3 to a diamond formation during the 2013–14 season. Steven Gerrard described Rodgers’ one-on-one management as the best he had ever seen.

List of Rick and Morty characters

Beth, Summer, The Smith household members – left to right: Jerry Morty and Rick

Rick and Morty is an American adult animated multimedia franchise that has its origins in the television series of the same name by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon that premiered in 2013 and revolves around Rick Sanchez, an eccentric alcoholic scientist who lives there with his grandson Morty Smith takes on dangerous, offbeat adventures in cosmos and alternate universes, including the spin-off series The Vindicators and several comic series. The following is a list of characters from the Rick and Morty franchise.

Overview [ edit ]

family tree[edit]

Main characters[edit]

Rick Sanchez[edit]

Richard “Rick” Sanchez (voiced by Justin Roiland[1]) is a sociopathic, nihilistic, grumpy, crude, rude, narcissistic, self-absorbed, alcoholic scientist who is the widowed father of Beth Smith and the maternal grandfather of Morty and Summer. According to season 3, he is about 70 years old. The main premise of the show revolves around Rick’s high-profile sci-fi misadventures with Morty (often against his will). His sociopathic tendencies coupled with immense intelligence causes his daughter’s family to worry about their son’s safety. A highly intellectual character – often referred to by himself and others as the smartest man in the universe – who values his time,[2] he disparages many common human conventions such as school, marriage and love, although he shows genuine affection for his grandchildren and his daughter throughout the series. His response to the mundane requests of Morty and other family members suggests that he considers himself completely superior to them, although he does show a lonelier side in several instances throughout the series. He frequently belches mid-sentence while speaking, presumably as a result of his alcoholism. He is identified as Rick Sanchez from Earth Dimension C-137. In “The Wedding Squanchers”, Rick, along with Squanchy and Birdperson, were revealed to be freedom fighters against the Galactic Federation, who labeled them terrorists with warrants out. To ensure his family’s safety, Rick leaves a clue as to where to find him while he surrenders to the Galactic Federation and is imprisoned in one of their prisons. In “The Rickshank Rickdemption”, it is revealed that Rick actually turned himself in to destroy the Federation’s economy. When the Rick Council gets involved, Rick also takes the opportunity to bring down the Rick Council. Rick also orchestrated the “sending away” of Jerry for his earlier attempt to convince the family to place him in Federation custody, making Rick the “de facto patriarch of the household”. However, Rick’s attempt to evict Jerry was unsuccessful, resulting in a diminished role in the family. The character was primarily inspired by Emmett Brown from Back to the Future.

Morty Smith[edit]

Mortimer “Morty” Smith (voiced by Justin Roiland[1]) is Rick’s neurotic 14-year-old grandson who is frequently drawn into Rick’s misadventures. Morty is good-natured, but he’s easily distressed. He is often reluctant to follow Rick’s plans, and he often ends up traumatized by the unorthodox and morally questionable methods Rick uses to “fix” situations. The main Morty the episodes follow is referred to by Rick as the “Mortiest Morty” due to his bravery, which almost every other Morty lacks as his main uses are makeshift cloaking devices in which “Morty Waves” cancel out Rick’s “genius” waves (a concept Morty takes offense at). In “The Rickshank Rickdemption”, Morty is angry at Rick for leaving her and convinces Summer not to do so, even growing close to Rick when it appears as if threatening Summer’s life, although Rick returns home in the end Morty is happy to have his grandfather back, however in “The Rickchurian Mortydate” Morty refuses to be by Rick’s side when he decides to leave and stays with his parents and Summer. In “Raising Gazorpazorp,” he accidentally impregnates an alien breeding robot that gives birth to his semi-alien son Mortimer Smith Jr. Throughout the series, several characters mention that Morty has an L has severe handicaps and often shows low self-esteem. Despite this, he has proven to be intelligent and resourceful at times, and as the series progresses he learns how to use many of Rick’s gadgets, even manipulating Rick to take Jerry on an adventure. By the end of Season 3, he displays an uncanny level of common sense as well as a deep understanding of Rick’s twisted mind, as seen in Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender. The character was primarily inspired by Marty McFly from Back to the Future.

Jerry Smith[ edit ]

Jerry Smith (voiced by Chris Parnell[1]) is Summers and Morty’s insecure 34-year-old father, Beth’s husband, and Rick’s son-in-law who strongly disapproves of Rick’s influence on his family. Jerry used to work at a small advertising agency until he was fired for incompetence. Generally insecure, he often becomes involved in conflicts stemming from opportunistic posturing, while his marriage is sometimes jeopardized by his wife’s reactions to his bad relationship with Rick. Beth sees Jerry as mild-mannered beneath his boasts and ultimately fears a confrontation. However, it is strongly suggested that despite their problems, they are emotionally co-dependent. The episode “Mortynight Run” reveals that one of the Ricks, keenly aware that every Jerry is incapable of surviving off-earth, set up a daycare where every Jerry is taken care of during adventures by their Rick and Morty will be dropped off if he tries to accompany her. In the same episode, it is revealed that Beth left Jerry and remarried in some dimensions. At the end of “The Wedding Squanchers”, after trying to convince his family to sell Rick, Jerry becomes the only family member to benefit from Earth joining the Galactic Federation. After the federation collapses, Jerry steps on the gas and tells Beth it’s him or Rick, but Beth chooses her father and tells Rick that she and Jerry are getting a divorce. Rick later claims in a tirade to Morty that he planned this because Jerry planned to betray him. As Jerry leaves, Summer ignores him and Rick waits for him to leave. Summer comes to terms with the breakup and reconciles with him. In “The Rickchurian Mortydate”, Jerry and Beth reconnect and she calls off the divorce.

Beth Smith[edit]

Beth Smith (née Sanchez) (voiced by Sarah Chalke) is Rick’s daughter, Summers and Morty’s mother, and Jerry’s wife. She is a veterinarian specializing in equine surgery, a job she internally feels is beneath her heart, and is often defensive when her career is compared to human medicine. Level-headed and confident, she struggles with her husband’s ego, which thrives despite his proven mediocrity. Several episodes have addressed Beth’s deep dissatisfaction with her life, which stems from her belief that she’s “settling in” with her marriage, family, and job. She wanted to be a “real” surgeon, but became pregnant with Summer when she was 17. She is the most assertive force in her household while also displaying traits of selfishness, humor, and intelligence. Beth is undeterred by her father’s destructive and dangerous tendencies towards her son. She has viewed Rick more favorably than her mother since childhood due to parental separation. Harmon expanded on this origin in an interview: “Children can sometimes idolize their worst parent and blame their supportive parent for chasing off the father with the courage to leave.” … She believes that Rick, crazy as he is, is the better of both of her parents, although she was raised by her mother and she blames her mother’s inconspicuousness on her father’s departure and will do whatever it takes to keep her father in her Holding back life.”[2] In “The Rickshank Rickdemption,” Beth is heartbroken that Rick has left her again and is unhappy with the association’s new terms, as the medicines they provide are making horses healthier than ever, what affecting her work. She is happy when Rick comes back home, but Jerry, fed up with Rick, forces her to choose between Rick and him. Beth chooses Rick over Jerry, which leads to their silent divorce. In ” The ABC’s of Beth”, it is revealed that Beth has the same sociopathic tendencies as her father. Rick offers to make Beth a clone of himself to take care of her family while she explores the Multiversu m can explore. In “The Rickchurian Mortydate”, she begins to believe that she herself is the clone and enlists Jerry’s help. Beth realizes that she loves Jerry and calls off the divorce, renewing her bonds with her family and no longer uncertain about Rick leaving her again.

Summer Smith[ edit ]

Summer Smith (voiced by Spencer Grammer[1]) is Morty’s 17-year-old (18 by Season 5) older sister, a more conventional and often shallow teenager obsessed with improving her status among her peers. Summer is generally similar to her mother, and she is often shown to be very smart and humorous, but she has also shown elements of Jerry’s quest for approval. She occasionally expresses her jealousy that Morty is allowed to accompany Rick on his interdimensional adventures. In season two, she accompanies Rick and Morty on adventures more frequently, proving even more competent than Morty at times, especially when emotional nuance is required. On occasion, Summer has been shown to think similarly to Rick, such as quickly finding a way to save herself and Rick from execution and correctly deducing that there were more dead flies in Rick’s garage than they appeared. Summer cares for Rick and sees him as a hero, although he often despises and rejects her perspective on life and her values as a teenager. In “The Rickshank Rickdemption”, she is the only family member willing to save Rick, despite her brother’s pleas that Rick is nothing more than a selfish idiot. When her parents agree to a divorce, Summer begins teasing her father and showing her dark side until she reconciles with him.

In the season five finale, it is revealed that the backstory was actually true. An alternate version of Diane named Bonnie Sinclair was created by cover artist Giahna Pantano in supplemental materials for the Rick and Morty Oni Press comic series. [3]

Alternate universe versions of the main characters[edit]

Different versions of the main characters inhabit different realities and dimensions. Other ricks are mostly similar to the “main” rick, although some have unique features that set them apart. Most of the other Mortys featured on the show are far more shy and weak-willed than the main Morty, with the exception of “President Morty”. They are all voiced by Justin Roiland.

The Trans-Dimensional Council of Ricks – A parody of the Council of Reeds of the Fantastic Four [4] [5] [6], which acts as a kind of governing body for the different versions of Rick inhabiting different timelines and dimensions. They are often at odds with Rick C-137 over his refusal to work with them (which he thinks makes every Rick on the council less Rick than he is), but otherwise they are shown to get along well with him than a select few Council members were seen at Rick’s party in “Ricksy Business”. The Council is killed by Rick in the season 3 premiere, “The Rickshank Redemption”. “The Ricklantis Mixup” reveals that after the death of the Council, the Citadel became a democratic government and that the Council was actually the face of a shadowy Ricks cabal. In “Rickmurai Jack”, it is revealed that Rick created the Council as well as the Citadel and the central finite curve (a parody of the TVA’s sacred timeline) to separate dimensional travel in universes where Rick is the only smartest person, while he separates those he is not. The Lawyer has also manipulated Beth and Jerry’s relationship in other realities in order for Morty to be born for her in order to recruit and clone other Mortys for her to be minions.

Doofus Rick – The Rick of Dimension J-19 Zeta 7. A supposedly less intelligent Rick with buck teeth and a bowl cut, he is said to hail from a universe where everyone consumes their own feces. Since he never sired a Beth, he was assigned his Morty, “Eric Stoltz Mask Morty”, from a dimension where everyone has Lionitis. He is much friendlier than most other Ricks and becomes friends with Jerry.

He is later revealed to have controlled “Evil Rick” and escapes among the thousands of other Mortys freed from captivity. In “The Ricklantis Mixup”, this Morty assumes a new identity as Candidate Morty and is elected President of the Citadel after a rousing speech for unity. He survives an assassination attempt by his former campaign manager, Morty, after the manager learns his true identity.

They are both professionally successful, Jerry as a famous Hollywood actor and Beth as renowned surgeon (for humans rather than horses). They were main characters when the series began, and as such were identical to the “current” Smith family. In “Rick Potion No. 9”, they are left behind as Rick takes Morty to a new dimension to live after he irreparably turns everyone besides them into “Cronenbergs”. By the time Morty C-137 and the Summer return to his original dimension in the season 3 premiere, the sanity of the original Smiths seems to have eroded, as they attempt to kill Summer and hold Morty captive because of their association with Rick. The original Smith are featured as recurring characters in the Rick and Morty Oni Press comic series.

This traumatized Rick and made him invent his portal gun so he can scour the multiverve in search for Killer Rick to get revenge, but had no luck finding him and gave up.

Associates of Rick [ edit ]

Mr. Meeseeks (voiced by Justin Roiland) – A race of blue humanoid creatures who all share the same name and personality. The Meeseeks are created from a metal box called a Meeseeks Box, and once they appear, whoever summoned them must give them a single simple task for them to fulfill, after which they disappear in a cloud of smoke. Meeseeks make their first appearance when Rick becomes tired of the family members asking him for favors, so he gives them the Meeseeks Box to have the Meeseeks do chores for him, but not before explaining that Mr. Meeseeks “are not Gods” and therefore their chores must be kept simple. Mr. Meeseeks are normally cheerful and cartoonish in personality, but if they spend too much time without fulfilling their given task, their sanity begins to wane and they can become dangerously psychotic, going to great lengths to see their task done, to the point of attempting murder on their summoner. This is because, according to the Meeseeks themselves, merely existing is physically and psychologically torturous to them, so the sooner they complete their tasks the sooner they can disappear. There are also Kirkland branded red Mr. Meeseeks, which are more surly and uncooperative compared to the blue versions.

Scary Terry (voiced by Jess Harnell) – A murderous entity who resides in the dream world. He is a “legally safe” parody of Freddy Krueger and has miniature swords on his fingers instead of knives. He initially tries to kill Rick and Morty, but later befriends them after they help him with his own dream problems. He is very fond of the word “bitch”, and injects it into almost every sentence. It is revealed that scaring is simply an occupation for him, and that he is very insecure about his capabilities, which puts him under great stress. Unlike Krueger, who was a human that was burned to death and then became a demonic ghost, Scary Terry is of a different species and his burnt appearance is a naturally-occurring trait, as seen with his similarly “scary” wife and infant son, as well as the classmates and teacher seen in his dream.

Unlike Krueger, who was a human that was burned to death and then became a demonic ghost, Scary Terry is of a different species and his burnt appearance is a naturally-occurring trait, as seen with his similarly “scary” wife and infant son, as well as the classmates and teacher seen in his dream. dr Xenon Bloom (voiced by John Oliver) – A sentient amoeba who co-founded Anatomy Park along with Rick. He is killed when the diseases of the park escape from captivity and overrun the park.

(voiced by John Oliver) – A sentient amoeba who co-founded Anatomy Park along with Rick. He is killed when the diseases of the park escape from captivity and overrun the park. Birdperson (voiced by Dan Harmon) – A superhero-like being who is Rick’s best friend. He holds a deep respect for Rick, and often offers Morty insight when Morty considers doing something that would jeopardize his and Rick’s relationship. He was at one point in a band with Rick and Squanchy. Birdperson, Rick, and Squanchy were once freedom fighters against the Galactic Federation’s oppression; their “crimes” led the Galactic Federation to issue warrants for their arrests. Birdperson marries Tammy Gueterman in the season 2 finale, but is killed by her after it is revealed that she is an undercover agent of the Galactic Federation sent to capture Rick and his associates. Birdperson’s appearance is based on the character Hawk from 1970s series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century . In the post-credits of the Season 3 premiere, Bird Person is turned into a cyborg called Phoenixperson by Tammy and the Federation after Rick destroys the Federation’s economy and forces them to leave Earth. She rides him away, presumably to seek revenge on Rick. In the season 4 finale, when the Smiths infiltrate the Galactic Federation’s new planet-destroying battle station to destroy it and rescue the two Beths, Phonenixperson confronts and battles Rick, almost killing him, until he is tricked by an invisible Jerry using Tammy’s corpse and subsequently shut down by Beth. Afterwards, it is revealed that Rick retrieved Phoenixperson’s remains and keeps him in his garage lab until he finds a way to fix him.

Revolio “Gearhead” Clockberg, Jr. (voiced by Scott Chernoff) – A robotic-looking “gearperson”. He is well-versed in an event that occurred on his home planet called the “Gear Wars” and can play an instrument similar to a lute. Despite being one of Rick’s friends, Rick does not know his real name, preferring to call him “Gearhead”, a racial epithet. Rick and Morty hide out at his house while fugitives for freeing Fart, and Gearhead betrays Rick by calling the police. Because of this, Rick beats him up and replaces his mouth gears with his “gearsticles”. He has a somewhat effeminate voice, and a magazine entitled “Queer Gear” can be seen in his home, hinting that he is a gear-mosexual. Despite his betrayal, he is shown attending Rick’s party in “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender”, indicating that they are still friends. He catches Morty’s Vindicators jacket after he tosses it away and is later shown attempting to pick up some gear women by pretending to be a part of the team. However, an actual disaster strikes, causing him to run away. He then trips on a pile of gears and falls, causing his arms and legs to break off.

Squanchy is one of Rick’s best friends and wears a bracelet inscribed with “Rick’s BFF”. Squanchy, Birdperson, and Rick were once freedom fighters against the Galactic Federation’s oppression; their “crimes” led the Galactic Federation to issue warrants for their arrests. Morty and Jessica catch him engaging in autoerotic asphyxiation in a closet in the garage. He was at one point in a band with Rick and Birdperson. When the Galactic Federation infiltrates Birdperson’s wedding in the season 2 finale episode “The Wedding Squanchers”, he reveals that one of his teeth contains a liquid which transforms him into a hulking behemoth. Justin Roiland combined his name with the company Nintendo to form the name for his virtual reality studio, “Squanchtendo”.

He has the DNA of both Abraham Lincoln and Adolf Hitler, which was intended to make him “a morally neutral super-leader”. Instead, it renders him with conflicting emotions that he is unable to deal with. He initially seeks to be accepted as a son by his “father” Rick, who only regards him as a failed experiment. After Rick tries to get him killed in an alien environment, he swears revenge only to be picked up by the Testicle Monsters to be used as a sex toy in their weird orgy.

Krombopulos Michael (voiced by Andy Daly) – A Gromflomite assassin who often purchases weapons from Rick. Although cheerful and friendly, he is also devoid of ethical restraint and has no qualms with killing anything or anyone, including children, old people and animals. He is accidentally crushed to death by Morty as the latter clumsily pilots Rick’s ship into the building that Michael’s target is imprisoned in. Krombopulos Michael is also revealed to have an unnamed lover, in which he ceremoniously kisses a locket with her picture, before embarking on his mission to kill his target, leading to his accidental death.

Unity (voiced by various; main body voiced by Christina Hendricks) – A hive mind whom Rick had previously dated, as they are two of the small handful of sentient beings capable of fully comprehending the scope of the universe. To spread to others, the hosts vomit a green liquid into the others’ mouths which quickly incorporates them. Unity and Rick get back together, but Unity soon realizes that the self-destructive behavior they indulge in when they are together is bad for both of them, leading to Unity ending their relationship again. A distraught Rick attempts suicide, but fails.

Blim Blam the Klorblok (voiced by John Kassir) – A large slug-like alien, who claims to be a murderer who eats babies and to have traveled to Earth to do so. He was captured and chained up by Rick in an attempt to cure Blim Blam’s “space AIDS” in order to become rich selling the cure. He was discovered by Beth and Jerry, but the couple’s bickering annoyed Blim Blam to the point that he broke free, berated the two using a translation device Rick had (since he could only speak in an alien language beforehand), and left, promising never to return to Earth.

Mr. Poopybutthole (voiced by Justin Roiland) – A yellow humanoid creature and longtime family friend. He is a parody of wacky side characters on television shows. Although he shows up at the same time as a group of Alien Parasites who take the forms of similarly zany characters, Mr. Poopybutthole himself is real. He is severely injured by Beth after she mistakes him for an Alien Parasite and shoots him. By the post-credits, Mr. Poopybutthole survives the wound and is undergoing physical therapy. While the nurse states that he doesn’t want any visitors right now due to the stress of his rehabilitation, she does forward Mr. Poopybutthole’s apology to them about nobody having bad memories of him. Mr. Poopybutthole is seen again in the post-credits of “The Wedding Squanchers” watching the episode while still recovering from his wound. After getting his pizza delivered, he implores the viewers to tune in a year to 18 months later in order to see how the cliffhanger is resolved in Season 3. He appears again in the post-credits scenes in Season 3 finale and has a wife and kids and in the Season 4 episode “One Crew over the Crewcoo’s Morty” as a college professor. He is later mentioned to be fired after Rick hires his students to kill him to test his karate skills when they speak during the episode’s post-credits. He also appears in a post-credits monologue scene at the end of the Season 5 finale, where he is shown to be single again, and living alone in a shabby apartment.

Arthricia (voiced by Chelsea Kane) – A young alien girl who resembles an anthropomorphic cat person. She resides on a planet with an Amish style culture whose residents engage in an annual “purge”. She first injures Rick, mugs Morty, and steals their ship in order to use it to kill the rich people who dominate her planet and enforce the purge amongst the poor. She is unable to fly it properly, so Rick gives her a robot suit and helps her kill the rich people after Morty gets too carried away with killing people and has to be subdued. Morty later asks her out, but she declines and claims that she already has a boyfriend.

He also has hydrokinetic abilities and the power to control the police at a command. Nimbus has knowledge of Rick’s past, including the identity of his wife. He is a parody of both Aquaman and Namor.

He attempts to crush Rick and Morty with the hammers on a giant piano, but is killed by Jaguar before he could do any harm to Rick or Morty. The Vindicators – A group of superheroes who band together to fight evil when it threatens to destroy the world. They enlisted Rick and Morty to help them defeat their nemesis, Worldender once before, but did not invite them back a second time due to “personality conflicts”, resulting in mass casualties and 3 of them dying. Nearly all of them are killed when Rick, in a fit of drunken jealousy and contempt, sets up a Saw -style gauntlet to prove that the team is nothing but a bunch of one-dimensional hacks, causing most of the team to either die to Rick’s traps, or kill each other when tensions and inner turmoil turn them against each other. They were later featured in the comic series Rick and Morty Presents , and the television series The Vindicators . They are a parody of the Avengers. Vance Maximus, Renegade Starsoldier (voiced by Christian Slater) – The leader of the Vindicators. He presents himself as a suave, friendly and fun-loving leader, but Rick’s death traps quickly causes him to reveal his true nature as a coward who cracks under pressure. He insults Morty as “the learning-disabled kid we do photo ops with”, and then attempts to escape only to be killed by a trap. He is a parody of Iron Man and Star-Lord. In Rick and Morty Presents , an alternate reality version of Vance Maximus is incinerated by Boon. Alan Rails (voiced by Lance Reddick) – A man who gained the ability to summon ghost trains after his parents were killed in a railroad accident. He wears a ghostly train whistle around his neck, which he uses to summon ghost trains. In Rick and Morty Presents , an alternate reality version of Alan Rails is crushed underfoot by Boon. Supernova (voiced by Gillian Jacobs) – A star themed superheroine, who is the only surviving member of the Vindicators after she assisted Million Ants in killing her ex-husband Alan Rails, then later killed her lover Million Ants. It is unknown whether Rick exposed her crimes or if she is still a hero after she escaped. She is most likely a parody of Starfire with a design like Singularity. In Rick and Morty Presents , an alternate reality version of Supernova is incinerated by Boon. Crocubot (voiced by Maurice LaMarche) – A cyborg crocodile. Little is known about him save for his cold mechanical-reptilian logic, and that Rick made a joke about him falling into a vat of redundancy. He dies in one of Rick’s death traps when he tries to answer a question using common logic, when not taking into account the illogical answer that only Morty would know. In Rick and Morty Presents , an alternate reality version of Crocubot has their heart ripped out by Pickle Rick. Million Ants (voiced by Tom Kenny) – A sentient ant colony who was originally given sentience by Supernova and became her adulterous lover when they were trapped on a planet for several days with no way of knowing if they would survive. He is killed by Supernova who crushes the queen ant after he tries to reason with her after she attempts to kill Rick and Morty. He is likely a parody of Ant-Man but bears more of a resemblance to Swarm and Clayface. In Rick and Morty Presents , an alternate reality version of Million Ants is blown up by Death Stalkers. Scarepool – An eyepatch-wearing anti-hero alternate reality version of Scary Terry recovering from cancer. He is a parody of Freddy Krueger and Deadpool. In Rick and Morty Presents , Scarepool is crushed underfoot by Boon. Pickle Rick – An insane alternate reality lightning-infused version of Pickle Rick, who harnesses the “Sour Force” from the brinestream in order to go full-sour and “fix time” after breaking it. He is a parody of the Flash. In Rick and Morty Presents , Pickle Rick is eaten alive by Boon.

He wishes to eventually become a full-fledged Vindicator, but is always made to stay behind and clean up their ship. Rick appreciates him more than the other Vindicators because he laughs at Rick’s jokes. While drunk, Rick claims to have more love for him than Morty, only to apparently forget who Noob Noob is after recovering. In Rick and Morty Presents , an alternate reality version of Noob Noob becomes the supervillain Boon , before being torn apart by an army of Mr. Meeseeks.

Alien ethnic groups [ edit ]

The Zigerions – A race of highly intelligent alien scammers who routinely abduct Rick and place him into virtual simulations in an attempt to get his recipe for concentrated dark matter. Space Beth (voiced by Sarah Chalke) – In “Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri”, it is revealed that Rick did indeed make a clone of Beth, as there is another Beth fighting a new and improved version of the Galactic Federation, having usurped Rick as the “Most Wanted” in the galaxy. The President and agrees to the selfie, but by this point Morty has left with Rick’s portal gun and hidden with the rest of the family, forcing Rick to use the President’s inferior portal device to track them down.
