Collaros was Cincinnati’s starting quarterback for the 2010 season. He led the Big East in passing yards with 2,902 and touchdowns with 26. Collaros won the 107th Gray Cup and 108th Gray Cup as a starting quarterback with the Blue Bombers when they defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in both games. He had previously won the Gray Cup as a backup quarterback with the Toronto Argonauts in the 100th Gray Cup. Collaros played football at the University of Cincinnati and was also a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts.

Collaros graduated from Steubenville (Ohio) High School in 2007 after leading the Big Red to the Division III state titles in the 2005 and 2006 seasons, ending with an undefeated 30-0 record as a starter.
College career[edit]
Collaros was one of five quarterbacks to play for the Bearcats during the 2008 season.[1] After Tony Pike was injured in the Akron game, Collaros took his first snap as a college quarterback midway through the fourth quarter.[1] During the season, he had one shot on four attempts for a total of two yards. He also rushed 6 times for a total of 29 yards.[3]
When Pike was injured during a game against South Florida midway through the 2009 season, Collaros took over again; On his third snap, he ran for an important 75-yard touchdown. He went on to start the next four games while Pike recovered from a broken arm. In Week 10, Collaros was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week after a Big East-record 555 total rushing yards (480 passing, 75 rushing) and three touchdowns (one passing, two rushing) in a 48-45 win via Connecticut.[5] In four starts, the second half of USF play, and several “cameo” appearances, Collaros amassed relatively large numbers (1,434 yards and 10 touchdowns passing, 344 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers[edit]
Collaros signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft, but did not make the team.
Toronto Argonauts[ edit ]
Collaros signed a contract in June 2012 to play for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. He played in one game during the 2012 CFL season, completing seven of 11 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. In the first preseason game of the 2013 CFL season, he completed nine of twelve passes for 95 yards and one touchdown. On July 30, he had his first CFL start in place of the injured Ricky Ray when the Argonauts launched the B.C. Lions at Rogers Centre. He threw for three touchdowns and completed 21 of 25 passes for 253 yards. Collaros had a stellar 2013 season. He played in 14 games that season and was the starting quarterback for eight games due to an injury to Ricky Ray. He completed 190 out of 287 pass attempts with a strong 66.2% completion rate. He threw for 2,316 yards, 14 touchdowns and just six interceptions for a 98.4 quarterback rating. He was not selected by the Ottawa Redblacks in the 2013 CFL Expansion Draft as he was scheduled to become a free agent in February 2014. The Redblacks didn’t want to risk their picks with players who might not re-sign with their new team. Collaros was set to become a free agent in February 2014 if Argos failed to agree a contract extension. Understanding that Collaros would not re-sign with the Argos and would instead test the free-agent market, Argos general manager Jim Barker decided to fire Collaros before beginning free-agent. After failing to agree on a new treaty, the Argonauts released Collaros on January 29, 2014.[14]
Hamilton Tiger Cats [ edit ]
On January 30, 2014, Collaros announced his intention to sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Later that day he signed a contract to keep him at Hamilton through the 2016 season. In his first season with the Tiger-Cats, Collaros started in 13 of the 18 regular-season games and helped lead the Tiger-Cats to a 9-9 record (first place in the East Division) and propel them to a 102nd place finish lead Gray Cup game; in which they were defeated by the Calgary Stampeders for the second year in a row. Collaros came on form in the 2015 CFL season, leading the Tiger-Cats to a record 8-3 to start the season. In a game against the Eskimos on September 19, 2015, Collaros left the game with a leg injury and did not return to the field. Two days later, it was announced that he had torn his cruciate ligament and would miss the remainder of the 2015 season. At the time of the injury, Collaros led the league in passing yards (3,376), touchdown passes (25), and passer rating (113.7).
On May 4, 2016, Tiger-Cats head coach Kent Austin announced that Collaros would be limited in training camp and likely miss the start of the 2016 regular season as he recovers from his cruciate ligament injury. On June 19, three days before the start of the season, Austin confirmed that Collaros would not start the season as he continued to rehabilitate his knee. Ahead of Week 8 and almost 11 months after his knee injury, Collaros returned to training with the first-team offence. Collaros made his season debut in time for the team’s Week 8 match against the BC Lions. The following season, on August 29, 2017, after an 0–8 start to the 2017 season, Tiger Cats head coach June Jones announced that Jeremiah Masoli would start at quarterback in Week 11 against Collaros. Collaros did not start another game for the Tiger-Cats during the 2017 season. By all accounts, 2017 was the worst season of a career for Collaros: not only did he not win a game, he also posted a career low quarterback efficiency rating of 88.1 and a career low completion percentage (62.8%) ). His touchdown-to-interception ratio (8:7) was also the lowest of his career.
Saskatchewan Roughriders[ edit ]
On January 3, 2018, Collaros was traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a second-round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft. On January 19, 2018, Collaros agreed to a restructured contract with the Riders.[23] Prior to the restructured deal, Collaros was expected to earn $500,000 in 2018, plus a $200,000 roster bonus due February 1, 2018.[24] Collaros suffered a concussion in the team’s Week 2 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks. Collaros re-signed to a one-year deal with the Riders on free agency opening day, February 12, 2019. Collaros was kicked out of the first game of the season when he was hit in the head by Ti-Cats linebacker Simoni Lawrence while trying to slide. Collaros was subsequently placed on the 6-game injury list.[32]
Toronto Argonauts (II) [ edit ]
On July 31, 2019, Collaros was traded to the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2020 CFL Draft. The selection could have been increased to the level of a second-round selection in this draft if Collaros had met the playing time requirements and extra-time clauses.[33] At the beginning of September 2019, Collaros was not yet able to participate in training due to the concussion he suffered in week 1.[34] However, at the end of the month he threw the ball in practice.[35]
Winnipeg Blue Bombers[edit]
Collaros was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on the CFL’s 2019 trade deadline, October 9, 2019, along with an exchange of draft picks in the 2020 CFL draft. The Bombers had lost starting quarterback Matt Nichols to a season-ending injury earlier in the season, and the Bombers had lost four of their last five games with Chris Streveler at center. Before the final game of the regular season, Collaros began taking first-team reps in practice for the Bombers and was announced as the starting quarterback on October 24, 2019, taking over an injured Streveler. Collaros threw his first passes of the year for the count (his only try for the Roughriders was nullified due to a defensive penalty) and led the Blue Bombers to a win in their season finale. Collaros formed a QB tandem with Streveler, with Streveler serving primarily as a gritty running option. The two turned the Bombers’ postseason slump into a postseason winning streak that saw Winnipeg defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 33-12 to win their 107th Gray Cup. Collaros’ Gray Cup win was unique in that he defeated Saskatchewan, the team he’d started the season with in the division finals, and then defeated Hamilton, whose linebacker Simoni Lawrence hit him in the head in Week 1, knocking him out for a substantial KO’d part of the season en route to the championship.[41] The media had frequently brought up these circumstances and Collaros did not respond until the final post-Gray Cup media session, saying: “What do you call it? The revenge spree? We finished it. It’s over. Last show tonight.”[41 ] On January 27, 2020, Collaros and the Bombers agreed to a two-year contract extension, which prevented him from becoming a free agent on February 11.[42]

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 CFL season, Collaros did not play in 2020. He entered the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 2021 season as an undisputed starter, completing 18 of 28 pass attempts for 217 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opening Gray Cup rematch against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.[43] He threw for a season-high 417 yards, the second-highest of his career, and two touchdowns in a Week 9 win against the BC Lions on October 1, 2021.[44] The Blue Bombers clinched first in the league in Week 12 with three games remaining as Collaros had a 10–1 record as the team’s starting quarterback. He finished the season having played and started in 13 regular season games, completing 243 passes from 346 attempts for 3,185 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. He had a 111.01 quarterback passer rating, which was the 10th best single-season rating in CFL history. He was named a CFL All-Star and Most Outstanding Player in the CFL for his dominant year. In Winnipeg’s first West Final playoff game since 1972, Collaros completed 17 of 21 pass attempts for 229 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in the win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He then started in his third career Gray Cup game in the 108th Gray Cup Championship, again against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Collaros completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 240 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the 33-25 overtime win over the Tiger-Cats and was named the Gray Cup Most Valuable Player. On January 20, 2022, Collaros and the Blue Bombers agreed to a one-year contract extension.[48]

Collaros and his wife Nicole own a home in Aurora, Ontario.[50] The couple met through former Hamilton Tiger Cats player Andy Fantuz and his wife Amanda and married in February 2019.[50]

Heck, one questioner even asked Collaros if he had toilet paper.
The whole exercise has reiterated how excited Collaros is to return to the Bombers after re-signing with the club this off-season and how, as a new father, he cannot bear to be away from his daughter for too long.
That was evident when Collaros ended the session by thanking everyone for their well wishes, adding that his wife was a champion and that after being separated from his daughter for half an hour, “I’m going to hold her now.”

Q: How do you compare Winnipeg to other CFL cities you’ve played in?
Collaros: I’ve been to three other cities (Toronto, Hamilton, and Saskatchewan) and they were all great cities. There are great things about all three. From a living perspective, they offer different things, different cultures, different types of food.
What struck me about Winnipeg was how close the community was and how nice everyone was when I met people in public, whether it was at the mall, at a Tim Hortons, at the stadium before games, after games. It really felt like a family atmosphere there. It’s just a great place to play and I’m really looking forward to going back there, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Q: If you could sit down and discuss football with any past or current player or coach, who would it be and why?
Collaros: Man, a lot of names come to mind, but I’d probably have to go to Bill Walsh or Vince Lombardi just from an organizational standpoint and how they ran their teams. And of course the Xs and Os with Walsh. I would just like to see how long they have run an organization on a really high-functioning matter.
There are also many good minds in the CFL. I enjoyed working with LaPo (Paul LaPolice) last year and look forward to working with Buck this year. And then being able to sit down every morning and talk to Osh (Mike O’Shea) and give us something motivating is also a great thing.
Q: What was your favorite game with the Bombers this year?
Collaros: It was probably Andrew’s (Harris) touchdown run in the Gray Cup. In a way, it set the tone. Our defense really clicked on all cylinders and they put on a great play that forced a turnover, a sack fumble but it put us in a great position. ‘Sheed (Rasheed Bailey) bumped into the next play and took out the defensive end and Andrew went in there virtually untouched as our offensive line set the tone there.
Q: If you could play another sport besides soccer, what would it be?
Collaros: I played baseball in college, although my favorite sport to play as a kid was basketball.
Q: Are you excited to have Buck as your offensive coordinator and do you think the play-calling will be that different from LaPo’s system?
Collaros: I don’t know how much that will change. Everyone has their own style and things they want to do. Buck did a great job last year because I was just able to communicate aggressively about what we’re doing. So far this offseason, he’s been great to work with…(listening to) some of his other thoughts and the different way he views the game than LaPo. It’s always good when you can work together and sit down and talk about what you like, what you don’t like and why. It’s a great way to move forward and I’m really looking forward to working with him this year.
Q: How was your confidence and mindset, especially when everyone thought you were screwed?
Collaros: I don’t really listen to what other people say. Sometimes it gets me in trouble. And I try not to read anything. Well, I never thought I was done. I just wanted to keep playing and last year I was lucky enough to be in a great situation at the end of the year.
Q: Is it true that your baby’s middle name will be “Streveler”?
Collaros: I had the discussion with my wife and we just couldn’t do it. We love Chris. He’s a great guy. We will miss him this year.
Q; What are you looking forward to the most in the new season?
Collaros: I just get back on the field, get back out there with my teammates and learn more from Buck and more from the guys around me. And to be able to sit there and listen to Osh and stuff like that. It’s just about learning more about the game I love and getting back together with my teammates, especially when we’re in a time like this where there’s a lot of uncertainty and we don’t know when it’s going to happen. We are all excited to come back this year, even more than we usually are.
Q: Which is scarier, fatherhood or your first game as Blue Bomber?
Collaros: Definitely the fatherhood, although I wasn’t nervous about my first game as a Blue Bomber. The last few days have been quite a whirlwind for my wife and I. It was great. I would be lying if I said I don’t worry about everything all the time. That’s probably more daunting.
Q: Which Bombers player did you find the most difficult to play against when you were on other teams?
Collaros: That is a difficult question. There are a lot of great players in our defense. I played a season with Willie (Jefferson) in Sask and playing against him is definitely a pain. Adam Bighill is a phenomenal player. He changes games with his energy and how he gets from sideline to sideline… just some of the athletic plays he’s made against teams I’ve played in over the years, you just sit there, you throw it and you say ” Wow”.
Drake Nevis was a great player for us and I played with him at Hamilton for a long time.
