South Plains communities rally behind Ropesville teen seriously injured in crash
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Communities and schools are coming together to support a Ropesville teenager and his family after the teenager was seriously injured in an accident last week.
The 17-year-old girl, Kallie Ketchersid, was driving home from One Act Play practice on Thursday. Soldiers with the Texas Department of Public Safety say Ketchersid went off the lane overcorrected and the vehicle she was driving rolled near the intersection of FM 1585 and FM 168. The accident happened just after 8 p.m.
Ketcherside was flown from the crash site to University Medical Center.
After three days at UMC, Ketchersid was transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
She is involved in One Act Play, FFA, UIL, Basketball and is a cheerleader at Ropes High School.
Since their crash, communities across the South Plains have banded together. It started with her own church in Ropesville. Her class, the Junior class, was accepting donations for the Ketchersid family through March 11. Checks can be made in the Ropes Jr. class (write Kallie in the memo). They can be sent to 304 Ranch Rd. Ropesville, TX 79358.
Also, the school was encouraged to wear pink on Monday to show their support for Kallie.
On Wednesday, food trucks will be at the school for middle school students, high school students, faculty and all community members. Proceeds benefit the Ketchersid family. Mijo’s Tex-Mex BBQ, The Spud Truck and Frios Gourmet Pops will be there. The First Baptist Church of Ropes is holding a gift card campaign for the family who are spending time in Houston and caring for Kallie.

Students are also encouraged to wear green on Wednesday to show their support for Kallie, her family and the Ropesville community.
On Wednesday night, just after the sun goes down, Texas Tech Jones AT&T Stadium will be bathed in a green light in support of Kallie.
