Southern Colorado man arrested for 1994 cold case murder
A man linked to a 1994 homicide in Texas has been arrested in southern Colorado, the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said.
Jesse Hogue was arrested Thursday afternoon after detectives from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and Federal Marshals spotted the 73-year-old driving in the area of Platteville Boulevard and North Raymont Drive in Pueblo West. Police stopped him and Hogue was taken into custody without incident.
Hogue is accused of killing his wife, Jackie Hogue, 25 years ago in Bishop Hills, Texas, a town northwest of Amarillo. The victim’s teenage sons found her shot dead in her bed. Investigators said she was also sexually abused. There was no evidence of a break-in and a robbery was ruled out. CBS Amarillo reported in 2011 that the case was reopened multiple times, but each time investigators fell short.
“It’s absolutely not what you would expect. Not for someone like Jackie. Someone walked into her room and killed her. You want to know why, but the reason will never be good enough. I can’t think of a good enough reason for that. ” Jackie Hogue’s sister told CBS Amarillo.
A turning point would come in 2018 when producers of the Oxygen Channel TV series Cold Justice contacted the Potter County Sheriff’s Office to shoot an episode about one of the county’s cold cases. Jackie Hogue’s murder was proposed, and in January the production team met with investigators to review the case.
This time there was a break in the case.
CBS Amarillo reports that after recontacting witnesses and reprocessing evidence, Jesse Hogue emerged as a suspect.
A statement of probable cause was submitted to the 47th Circuit Attorney’s Office and a warrant was obtained for Hogue’s arrest.
J.R. Gonzales, Hogue’s roommate, told 11 News they had been close friends for several years and even bonded because of her widow.
“He mentioned to her and me that his wife was killed about 25, 26 years ago and left it at that. Because I was in the same situation. Mine was killed in a car accident. So we got along with each other through the death of having to bury someone you love.
“When he called me he said he was about to be arrested. I knew he was once arrested for drunk driving and I thought it might have something to do with it.”
Hogue is currently being held without bail in the Pueblo County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Texas.
The episode, in which “Cold Justice” will follow the case of Jackie Hogue, is the season finale and will air Saturday, April 6 at 4 p.m. MST on oxygen.

Following an investigation by Oxygen’s “Cold Justice” team, detailed in Sunday’s season finale, new circumstantial evidence was uncovered that made the case against Jesse Hogue more compelling for the Colorado 47th District Attorney’s Office.
Subsequently, an anonymous witness who said she was close friends with Jackie recalled that Jesse spoke about the murder. “He started crying and told me that if he could go back to that day, Jackie would be alive,” the witness said.
Pressing Jesse for clarification, the witness claimed that Jesse said the police couldn’t convict him because they would never find the gun. “He said, ‘No, you can’t judge me if you don’t find the gun,’ and then he told me you would never find it. That you were all too stupid,” said the witness.

Siegler and the Cold Justice team, armed with circumstantial evidence, put their questions to Jesse Hogue himself. Hogue, who moved to Colorado from Texas after the murder, takes part in an interview that aired on Sunday’s episode. In the interview, Hogue maintains his innocence and says he did not murder Jackie.
“I loved her. I’m not in me to murder anyone,” Hogue told investigators on Cold Justice.
Despite his claims of innocence, the evidence found by Siegler and his team was enough for a grand jury to indict Hogue, who was arrested March 21, 2019 during a traffic stop.
Hogue is currently being held without bond at the Pueblo County Jail in Pueblo County, Colorado. According to KKTV, he is next threatened with extradition to Texas.
