Born on November 29, 1978 in Richmond, Texas, Fortune grew up in the church where his father pastored and was playing the drums by the age of five. He graduated from Kempner High School in Sugar Land, Texas, then attended Cal State Northridge and went on to become the choirmaster of Dimension Church in Houston. Fortune is a preacher, choirmaster, master of ceremonies and worship leader as well as an honest singer. His strength lies in understanding how to bring gospel and worship songs to a young audience of the 21 Featured Choir FIYA (which stands for Free in Yahweh’s Abundance), he freely incorporates hip-hop arrangements and urban beats into his recordings, including You Survived from from 2004, The Transformation from 2007, Encore from 2010 and Identity and Grace Gift (both released in 2012). His debut live album, two-disc Live Through It, was released in early 2014.
