TV’s Highest-Paid Actors and Actresses Who’s the Best Value

They may be on the small screen, but their paychecks aren’t small: The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons and Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara top this year’s list of the highest-paid actors and actresses on television.

The annual list, compiled by Forbes magazine, tracks earnings from June 2015 to June 2016, adding each actor’s recommendations along with their per-episode salaries. That explains why Vergara leads all TV actors, male and female, thanks to lucrative advertising campaigns (like Head & Shoulders shampoo) and licensing deals totaling a whopping $43 million. Parsons’ Big Bang co-star Kaley Cuoco ranks second among actresses with $24.5 million; She earns a cool $1 million per episode along with castmates Parsons and Johnny Galecki.

Richard Castle

Fictional character in the crime series Castle

Not to be confused with Richard Cassels

Fictional Character

Richard Edgar “Rick” Castle (born Richard Alexander Rodgers[4]) is a fictional character on the ABC crime drama series Castle. He is portrayed by Nathan Fillion.

The Richard Castle name is also used as a pseudonym under which a series of real books are written about the characters Derrick Storm and Nikki Heat based on the books mentioned in the television series. These books were successful and became New York Times bestsellers. Actor Nathan Fillion appears as the face of Richard Castle in the books and on the official website, and participates in book signings. The Castle book series was actually written/ghostly written by screenwriter Tom Straw.[5]

Creation and development[edit]

According to Fillion, the character’s name “Rick Castle” was dubbed “Rich Asshole” by the show’s creator and says it reflects his character. He describes Castle as “a bit of a douche” with Peter Pan syndrome stemming from his lack of a “real male adult role model in his life”.

Andrew Marlowe explained that he designed Castle’s character as one who would present a “storytelling point of view” as a counterpoint to Beckett’s evidence-based policing.[8] When Marlowe cast Fillion for the role, he described Castle as “the right vehicle for the right personality”. He also recognized the similarity between the Castle/Beckett relationship and Bones’ Booth/Brennan relationship.[10]

Character overview[ edit ]

family life[edit]

Castle is the father of Alexis Castle and the son of Martha Rodgers, both of whom live with him. His father is a CIA agent who has used the aliases “Jackson Hunt”[2] and “Anderson Cross”. Castle’s birth name is Richard Alexander Rodgers; He uses Richard Edgar Castle as his pen name (Edgar in honor of Edgar Allan Poe, although he still considers Alexander his middle name). Fillion describes the family dynamic as unconventional, with “Castle being very much mothered by his 15-year-old daughter, and at the same time he’s turning and mothering his own mother.”[11]

As a child, he never knew who his father was. He argued that he never missed having a father as he never had anything to miss, and it allowed him to imagine that his father could be anyone he wanted. He was cared for by a nanny who spent most of his time watching television during the day. One Life to Live was the inspiration to write his first novel. He was further inspired to become a writer when a man (later known as the father he never knew) gave him a copy of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale in the New York Public Library when he was ten years old.[12 ] He also claims to have been expelled from all of New York’s better academic institutions at least once[13] and learned to read speed while spending his childhood days at the New York Public Library.[14]

Castle has been married and divorced twice. His first wife was Alexis’ mother, Meredith (Darby Stanchfield), an impulsive, free-spirited actress and redhead like her daughter. She and Richard occasionally have a sexual liaison, leading Richard to metaphorically refer to her as a “fried Twinkie” (something that’s occasionally a treat, but having it every day would kill you) when she considered, return to New York. His second wife was Gina Cowell (Monet Mazur),[15] his publisher, a role she continued after their divorce.[16] Castle and Gina briefly became involved again when she spent a summer with him in the Hamptons to mentor his second Nikki Heat novel, but they soon ended their relationship.

Castle has sole custody of his daughter Alexis. Due to his own experiences of raising a nanny, he insisted on raising her himself, made easier by the fact that he works out of his large attic apartment he shares with his mother. Alexis sometimes seems more mature and responsible than her father who is raising him. Richard takes good care of her, but also likes to play with her.

Castle also regularly plays poker games with fellow writers James Patterson, Stephen J. Cannell, Michael Connelly, and Dennis Lehane. When Cannell died in 2010, a fictional mystery writer was invited to the game by Castle, but one seat was left empty in honor of her friend. He also mentions being friends with Jonathan Kellerman, Wes Craven and Stephen King.

Finally, in season five, Castle meets his father (portrayed by James Brolin), who he learns is a spy when he helps him rescue Alexis when she was kidnapped. A Russian enemy of Castle’s father plots revenge for the Russian’s murdered wife and kidnaps Alexis to lure him out.[17] His father has checked him, his mother and Alexis all their lives.

At the end of the final episode of season five, Castle Beckett proposes marriage just as she prepares to announce her decision to be offered a job in Washington, DC. The episode ends before she answers. At the beginning of the sixth season premiere, “Valkyrie”, Kate accepts. They eventually marry in season seven at a private wedding with her family, held at Castle’s home in the Hamptons.

In the eighth and final season, Beckett becomes estranged from Castle to protect him from LokSat, a deadly mastermind she is after, though they are still married and deeply in love. Beckett starts living elsewhere and doesn’t let Castle know about LokSat. After the events of “Mr. And Mrs. Castle” they get back together. Alexis will be Castle’s main helping hand in his P.I. Agency. In the series finale, a flashback seven years later reveals that Castle and Beckett are parents to three children.

Writing career[edit]

In early episodes of the series, starting in season 2, Castle spoke over the opening credits.

There are two types of people who sit around thinking about how to kill people: psychopaths and mystery writers. I’m the guy who pays better. Who am I? I’m Rick Castle… Every writer needs inspiration, and I’ve found mine.” [Det. Kate Beckett as Nikki Heat] “And thanks to my friendship with the mayor, I can take her case… And together, we catch killers.”

Castle is a 26 best selling mystery fiction writer. His first novel, In a Hail of Bullets, received at least 21 rejections before it was accepted by a publisher (he keeps the first rejection letter he received framed on his office wall as motivation)[18] and the Tom Straw Award the Nom DePlume Society won for crime fiction.[19] The books made Castle rich; When Alexis is kidnapped, he can pay $3 million in ransom. Castle has a large multi-story apartment in Manhattan, a beach house in the Hamptons, and luxury cars.

His most popular works are a series with Derrick Storm; A Calm Before The Storm, Gathering Storm, Unholy Storm, Storm’s Last Stand, Storm Season, Storm Rising, Storm Warning and Storm’s Break and in the pilot episode Castle attends a party for the release of the final book in the Storm series. Stormfall, which ends with the sudden death of Derrick Storm after Castle grows bored with the character. He later reads from the novel before a book signing. Patterson and Cannell both disagree with the decision to kill Storm, with Cannell commenting that he could have retreated instead or crippled Storm so he could revisit the character if he changed his mind.

His other books include Death of a Prom Queen, Flowers For Your Grave, Hell Hath No Fury, A Skull at Springtime, At Dusk We Die, When It Comes to Slaughter, and A Rose for Everafter.[21] By his own admission, his early works—Death of a Prom Queen, Flowers For Your Grave, and Hell Hath No Fury—are of poor quality; He specifically points to Hell Hath No Fury, with its storyline of “angry Wiccans in search of blood,” as a low point in his career.

After using his friendship with the mayor to team up with NYPD detective Kate Beckett under the pretense of searching for a new character, Castle plans a new series of novels with a new character, a detective based on Beckett . He soon calls Beckett’s literary alter ego “Nikki Heat”, much to her embarrassment.[22] Beckett takes offense at the name, considering it a “stripper name” and insisting that Castle change it, although he suggests the book titles Summer Heat, Heat Wave, and In Heat. Ultimately sticking to the name, the first novel in the series, Heat Wave, was published to critical acclaim and financial success. Castle is offered a lucrative contract to write three more Nikki Heat novels, with talks in a third-season film adaptation. The title of his second Nikki Heat novel, Naked Heat, once again displeases Beckett.

It has been suggested that Castle’s interest in death, murder and the macabre may be the result of childhood trauma. When Beckett confronts him about it, Castle dodges the question. However, once he tells the story, he admits that it’s fictional and that it’s “[his] job to make things up”. He later admits to his daughter that one of the reasons he writes is to understand how criminals could do the things they do. He was considered to write three novels centered around an unnamed British spy (allegedly James Bond) but turned down the offer, ostensibly because his publisher wanted three more Nikki Heat novels and offered him more money, but secretly because he assumed would have ended his association with Beckett. In “Hollander’s Woods” the source of Castle’s interest in writing murders is revealed: in 1983, when he was 11, he found a murdered girl and was confronted by her killer, who let him go. The girl’s body was never found and she was never identified, so no one believed her story. According to Castle, it is this encounter that drives him to do what he does: he could never solve the riddle of what happened to him that day in the forest, so he is driven to solve all the other riddles he has can. In the present of the episode, Castle is confronted with a similar case and finally learns the truth about what happened that day and is able to personally stop a serial killer of an unknown but presumably large number of murdered women.

Castle is something of a “method writer,” endlessly researching his subjects and learning new skills to put himself in the minds of his characters. Some of the useful skills Castle (and, to some extent, accomplice Alexis) have acquired include lock picking, safe picking, fencing, and a basic knowledge of forensics and criminal psychology. Although notoriously reluctant to “boring paperwork,” he is a writer, but his ability to read quickly allows him to sift through information faster than most others in the precinct (a skill Gates uses when chasing a bomber ) and he retains almost everything he reads, especially when it comes to case files (which is the closest he can come to being an expert when Jerry Tyson, aka 3XK, returns in season 7 after stealing his entire case file in season 6). He has also researched crime and serial killers such as serial killer Jerry Tyson aka The Triple Killer’s original crime series or 3XK for When It Comes to Slaughter. In the pilot episode “Flowers For Your Grave”, Castle displays an uncanny talent for behavioral observation, observing Beckett and being able to profile her accurately, to which a visibly shaken Beckett replies “cute trick”.

Kyra Blaine, Castle’s ex-girlfriend to whom he dedicated A Rose for Everafter, told Beckett that Castle only dedicates his books to people he really cares about.

In “Hollander’s Woods,” Castle is presented with the Poe’s Pen Achievement Award, which he believes is the highest honor a crime writer can receive. Though devastated by an encounter with the serial killer that sparked his interest in writing, Castle accepts the award and dedicates it to his family and friends, realizing he would not have won it without them.

Police advice[ edit ]

In the Castle pilot, Castle is consulted by NYPD Detective Beckett when two victims are murdered in the style of Two Deaths depicted in his novels Hell Hath No Fury and Flowers for Your Grave respectively. Although Beckett wants Castle to have access to the case, Castle repeatedly defies her orders to see his copycat’s work. Dissatisfied with what he sees as a boring solution to the case, Castle persuades Beckett to continue the investigation and ends up uncovering deeper layers of the crime. While the murders initially appear to have been committed by the mentally ill client of a social worker who was one of the victims, Castle notes that the killer did not exactly duplicate the crimes, ruling out the possibility that he was a maniac fan. He realizes that the killer was actually the social worker’s brother who was trying to trick their client so he could inherit his father’s money after his death (his father had terminal cancer). At the end of the pilot, Castle enters into a working relationship with Beckett under the guise of conducting research for his new series of Nikki Heat novels.

This relationship is often strained by Castle’s luck in meeting suspects in person and sneaking in behind breaching teams, even after Beckett orders him to stay behind. his attempts to follow them once allowed a suspect to escape (although, in Castle’s defense, this was only due to his ex-wife calling him on his cell phone during surveillance, and not to any error on his part). Despite this, Castle’s familiarity with numerous obscure subjects often brings breakthroughs. His career produces many contacts, including a CIA agent willing to break agency protocol by telling Castle and Beckett that their current victim wasn’t a CIA agent.

Despite being a good marksman (secret until Beckett wagers with him at the range), he works cases completely unarmed (with a few rare, isolated exceptions). While his status as a consultant generally allows him to take part in the “fun” parts of detective work without having to worry about the more tedious details like paperwork, the team puts him in situations where the criminals don’t demand police involvement , such as B. to come by a ransom. Castle still requires the official police agency to request information from various sources and can only interview witnesses under supervision.

Beckett often steps in to avoid getting carried away by wild theories that threaten to obscure the facts. He once speculated that a surgeon had been killed for his involvement in an organ smuggling ring before they found out he was wanted for cosmetic surgery he performed for someone in witness protection. Castle’s writing career has given him a knack for noting small details in the situations they investigate, such as when he discovered that the rent on a victim’s apartment had been paid after her death.

Originally portrayed as facetious and immature, such as having a bulletproof vest made that reads “WRITER” instead of “POLICE,” Castle’s character deepens as the series progresses. In “Sucker Punch,” Castle willingly donates $100,000 of his own money to a fake hit to lure out the killer while trying to apprehend the killer responsible for the death of Beckett’s mother over a decade ago. He then offers to end his partnership with Beckett after she was forced to shoot the real killer, who turned out to be a hitman who said nothing about his employer. Beckett declines the offer, arguing that Castle finds her hard work more enjoyable.

In Season 3 “Nikki Heat,” Castle is upset when B-movie actress Natalie Rhodes is cast as Nikki because she doesn’t think she’s right for the role. When Rhodes comes to a case to watch Beckett, Castle is further offended that she hasn’t read the actual book. Rhodes considers him irrelevant to the film and Beckett enjoys having Natalie around. As the case progresses, however, Rhodes begins copying Beckett’s mannerisms and outfits, complete with a brunette wig, which annoys Beckett while Castle begins to like her more. At one point, Rhodes kisses Castle, making it clear that she wants to sleep with him to feel the character more, but Castle rejects her, telling Beckett that sleeping with the actress playing the fictionalized version of her is “way too meta ” be.

In “Knockdown,” Castle helps Beckett catch her mother’s killer. When Martha points out that he wrote 22 books before meeting Beckett but he didn’t have to go to the police station every day, Castle replied that it wasn’t about the books anymore. Castle and Beckett end up kissing to distract a guard, although their reactions suggest they both felt something.

Since then, despite Beckett’s then-dating relationship with another man, they’ve been spending more and more time together, with Castle even admitting to being jealous when Beckett agrees to help another author with his book. In the final episode of Season 3, “Knockout,” Castle finally confesses his feelings to Beckett, who appears to be unconscious after being shot while delivering a eulogy at Roy Montgomery’s funeral after Montgomery sacrificed himself to be known for his role in the to atone for the death of Beckett’s mother. She claims to have amnesia after recovering from the shooting and dismisses the possibility of a relationship while her mother’s real killer is still at large.

In Season 4, Castle is contacted by a shadowy figure who says he is a friend of Roy Montgomery and that he has been assigned to protect Beckett in his place. Castle learns that Montgomery knew who ordered Beckett’s mother’s death; He had been the one who found out about the kidnappings and offered not to go to the police if Montgomery, Raglan, and MacAllister would give him the money they made from the ransom, which was estimated at several million dollars. According to the man, this person has become powerful enough to be destroyed by revelation. Montgomery had kept files that, if exposed, would harm the killer and others. The deal was that Montgomery’s family and Beckett would be safe if he wanted the files to remain classified. After his death, he had sent the files to the mystery man and hired him to uphold the deal. The only other stipulation was that Beckett was not allowed to approach the case or the deal was off. Castle says he’ll keep her in check. He just tells his mother this information and confides in her about the deal he made. Martha wants Castle to tell Beckett the truth, but Castle tells her he can’t because if she keeps digging, Beckett will be killed by the people behind her mother’s murder and that he has to protect her.

In “Dial M for Mayor,” a mysterious conspiracy is uncovered that attempted to oust Mayor Weldon, Castle’s close friend. An attempt to frame him for embezzlement failed when a young woman named Laura Cambridge discovered the fact and she was killed. During the case, the mysterious man contacts Castle again and requests a meeting. When they do, he helps him solve the case. However, he later reveals that the conspiracy against the mayor would have forced Castle out of the 12th Precinct because nobody would force Captain Gates to hold him. The man said that Castle had to stay by Beckett’s side because he was the only one who could keep her away from her mother’s case. Castle promises he’ll keep his end of the deal to keep Beckett off the case.

In “Pandora” and “Linchpin,” a murder investigation leads Castle and Beckett to reunite with Sophia Turner, a CIA agent on whom he is a main character based. Beckett shows some jealousy over how close the two are, and Turner tells Beckett that after she and Rick got involved, it was the beginning of the end of their partnership. The trio work together to prevent a conspiracy that could escalate into World War III. However, it turns out that Sophia is not only part of the conspiracy, but is actually a KGB mole who infiltrated the CIA only to be left on her own after the collapse of the Soviet Union. She holds Beckett and Castle at gunpoint, implying that Castle’s father was with the CIA and that’s why he was given access years ago. She is killed by a true CIA agent as Beckett and Castle help stop the conspiracy. As they mourn the loss of Sophia, Castle confesses to Beckett that she has remained much more faithful to the character he created.

In “47 Seconds,” Beckett reveals to a suspect that she remembered every second she was shot, unaware that Castle was watching from behind the one-way glass mirror. Though Castle tried to hide it, he began to distance himself from her, much to Beckett’s confusion, concluding that she never mentioned her memory of the event because she didn’t return his feelings and didn’t want to create an awkward situation.

In the season 4 finale, Castle is concerned when a murder case is linked to the conspiracy behind Beckett’s mother and he is told by the mystery man that Beckett’s life is in danger if she investigates. After Castle fails to subtly warn her, Castle confesses to Beckett how he protected her and she is outraged that he is making decisions for her. He confronts her about how he knows she remembers his declaration of love, and they both decide they’re done. After she nearly died in a confrontation with the killer and left the police, Beckett comes to Castle’s apartment and tells him that she could only think of him on the brink of death, and then they later kiss passionately.

The thread of their relationship continues in Season 5, in which Castle and Beckett try (and mostly fail) to hide their relationship from their co-workers – not just because of office gossip, but because of the threat of misconduct charges from the vigilant Captain Gates. In Episode 5.04 (Murder, He Wrote), Ryan accidentally stumbles upon the truth while interrogating a suspect, but chooses to keep the truth to himself and respect her privacy. Lanie and Esposito learn the truth in the following episode when Castle was framed for murder (Ryan told Esposito and Beckett told Lanie so they would be aware of the fact that their background research would uncover Castle’s contact with Beckett outside of case-related matters). In the Season 5 episode “Still”, Captain Gates reveals that she knew about the relationship and has remained silent ever since to maintain a “plausible denial”, i.e. she cannot report the relationship because she has not personally observed any behavior leading up to it suggesting a relationship and is happy to maintain plausible denial as long as the couple remains professional at work.

In the Season 6 episode “Veritas”, Castle works to protect her after Beckett is framed for murder by the man who ordered her mother’s death. They are eventually able to clear their name and as a bonus, finally arrest the man Beckett was after for so long with hidden evidence that Roy Montgomery left Johanna Beckett.

In episode eleven of season seven, Castle is ordered to leave the NYPD for working with a mob don to prove the innocence of one of his subordinates suspected of murder, resulting in the real killer being murdered.

After regaining his position in the police department, Castle is finally able to take down old enemy Jerry Tyson, aka serial killer 3XK, during “Resurrection” and “Reckoning.”

In the season seven finale, “Hollander’s Woods,” Castle is confronted with his past when a murder consistent with one he saw growing up is uncovered. The murder he witnessed had been his inspiration to write because never being able to complete the story of what happened in the woods as a child, he was driven to complete all the other stories to bring to an end that he could find. The investigation leads them to uncover a serial killer who has been operating for at least thirty years with an unknown number of victims, all people who will not be missed. The investigation leads them to the identity of the girl Castle saw murdered, and a showdown between Castle and the killer after he breaks into the man’s barn in search of evidence. Forced to fatally shoot the killer with Beckett’s gun in self-defense, Castle brings his victims to closure, although the incident leaves him shaken.

Private detective[ edit ]

After being banned from the 12th Precinct, Castle completed online courses and became a fully licensed private investigator in hopes that he could still work with the department, conducting his own investigations rather than being part of theirs, but he was informed that this planned gap would not work, as he was still not allowed to come into direct contact with evidence. He continued to work as a private investigator but soon grew dissatisfied with the role as he was mainly hired for smaller cases or by people who viewed his new career as a ‘gimmick’ rather than a serious profession. In one instance, he was hired by someone who wanted him to act as a false witness to their plans to fake their own deaths. However, after rescuing Beckett from his old nemesis, the Triple Killer, Captain Gates eventually hired Castle back as a consultant for the 12th Circuit – “officially” describing him as community service for meddling in an active case – and hired him re-enters as Beckett’s partner.

After Gates and Beckett were promoted so that Beckett is now Captain of the 12th Precinct, Castle reopens the Richard Castle Investigations (his private investigator’s office) so that he can participate in investigations due to Beckett’s more desk-bound role.

Nikki Heat fiktive Charaktere [ bearbeiten ]

Reviers [42] in Raging Heat befördert. [43] Obwohl sie als Bezirkskommandantin in Driving Heat einen etwas schwierigen Start hatte, findet Nikki schließlich ihren Halt. [39] It is mentioned in High Heat that Nikki has spent her entire career at the 20th, first as a rookie beat cop, then as a patrol sergeant, followed by detective and detective squad leader, and culminating in her current rank as captain. [44] Nikki and Rook also made a cameo appearance in Richard Castle’s Derrick Storm novel, Storm Front , where they interviewed Storm after he was detained by the NYPD for being in the room with a dead body. [45] After the events of High Heat , Nikki is offered the position of Director of Homeland Security by Presidential candidate Senator Lindsy Gardner, a position she is highly encouraged to accept by the Commissioner and Zach Hamner. She also works alongside Derrick Storm to unravel the mystery of why her mother actually faked her own death in 1999. [46]

. Nikki carries the NYPD-issue SIG-Sauer P226 DAO as her duty weapon (unlike Beckett, who uses the Glock 19). She lives at an apartment in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. In , Nikki learns that her murdered mother, Cynthia Heat (née Trope), was a CIA agent who worked as a piano tutor for the children of various foreign nationals, and that she was murdered because she had uncovered a terrorist plot. After ten years, Nikki was able to close the case and bring her mother’s killer to justice. “Mystery” of the Castle ghost writer [ edit ]

The ABC network was able to successfully conceal the true identity of the ghost-writer of the Castle book series throughout the eight years of the program’s production from 2009 through 2016, allowing the mystery of the true identity of this individual to then remain as an intriguing part of the over-all “Castle myth.” In 2010, the hint was dropped, when the “Nom de Plume Society,” and the “Tom Straw Mystery Writer’s Award,” were apparently created to fete actor Nathan Fillion with said award, however at that point in time the general public remained unaware of the connection. The general mystery persisted regarding the ghost-writer’s true identity, despite the fact that some then proposed the possibility that therefore Straw must be the true ghost-writer.[48] The ghost-writer’s name was only finally fully revealed after the series production was discontinued in 2016. It was then officially acknowledged that the Castle book series was indeed entirely written by a ghostwriter and that established screenwriter Tom Straw wrote the first seven.[5] [1] Not clear who wrote books 8-10.
