How do I know if my Evinrude EMM is bad?
The EMM also has a cooling duct, just like other companies use cooling water for their regulator/rectifiers. When running in sand or mud, check the lines often for clogs. The CHECK ENGINE light will illuminate and the engine will slow to 2500 RPM if a FICHT EMM overheats.
How do I update my Evinrude EMM?
This will install all update files in Evinrude Diagnostics and you can update your outboard through Evinrude Diagnostics by selecting Software Update. Just follow the on-screen instructions and find the right update for your engine.
Why d Evinrude fail?
Evinrude wasn’t in the 300hp+ range and that hurt them. They dn’t have the same dealer network as Mercury or Yamaha and dn’t own as many mirrors, making the gate difficult to find. On the surface, the mistakes I think they made are that they had too many engines overlapping.

How do you remove salt build up from an outboard motor?
The cooling system of an outboard is a very simple and compact application. Water is drawn through the lower unit by a water pump impeller and then pushed up to circulate through the powerhead and finally exits through the exhaust system.
How long can you leave an outboard without flushing?
Does vinegar remove salt deposits?
Salt deposits in your engine are a cancerous growth, causing costly problems down the track and keeping you off the water (outboard maintenance can be costly). A full flush of engines must be performed after each use and is recommended every six weeks if they have been stored.
How long should I flush my outboard motor?
A: White vinegar should work, but you have to give it time to work. If the mineral buildup is all over the faucets, you may need to soak a paper towel in the vinegar and wrap it around the faucets for about 10 minutes.
Should I leave my outboard motor up or down?
Flush for at least five minutes at le and with the engine upright. There is no need to run the engine when using the flushing port. After flushing, hold the motor upright to allow all water to drain from the powerhead.
Are outboards self draining?
Should I let my engine up or down? Simply put, if you leave the boat in the water, keep it in the up position to avo growth. If you leave it out of the water, trim it to drain the water and protect the Power Tilt and Trim seals from the sun.
Is it bad to run an outboard engine at full throttle?
All outboards have a self-draining cooling system. There’s no reason to start the engine thinking you’ll be cleaning every last drop out of the water pump housing.
How far below the bottom of the boat should the prop be?
As long as an outboard is properly supported, it is fine to drive at full throttle. Does it increase wear more than moderate throttle settings? Probably, but not to any significant extent. If you want an engine to last, proper preventative maintenance is exponentially more important than throttle adjustment.
How much does prop pitch change speed?
If you have a short shaft motor, the top of the transom and the bottom of the boat should be about 15 to 16 inches. For a long shaft, I think 20 to 21 inches is correct.
How long can you run an outboard at full throttle?
Typically, moving the gap up or down two inches will change the WOT engine RPM by about 400 RPM.

Posts: 4 Reply with Quote #1 Hello, my name is Phill and I’m new to this forum. I have two 200 H.O.s (DE200XCAB / 05404017 AND DE200HZAB / 05404449 ) on a newly refurbished MAKO 26.1. Yesterday I tried to add a Garmin machine to the NMEA 2000 backbone and the starboard engine isn’t working. The LED on the neutral starboard side of the ICON binnacle will flash rapidly. I removed all of the Garmin addition to the backbone and put it back as is. but the engine still won’t run. The troubleshooting page in the manual suggests that the EMM assigned the same ID number to both motors. So is there an easy way to reset this OR do I make a trip to the dealer!!!

Posts: 8,935 Response with Quote #2 The blinking neutral light can also indicate a problem in the digital shifter’s private network and is transmitted to operate over the NMEA 2000 network.
I don’t see how the Garmin affected that unless something really out of the ordinary happened. Has work been done on the shift actuator on the motor or on the ICON control connections?
