Tell us a little about yourself, your family, your job, etc …

I have 3 daughters and always work full time. I always put them and their needs first, which means I come in late. Until the last year or so, I had a very stressful job that required long hours, travel and had a lot of pressure and deadlines. My way of dealing with all that stress is to entertain myself with food. My husband is always supportive and climbs on the plate when I’m busy and out of touch, but I’m always guilty if I missed something. Even when I was around, I often felt like one of my feet was outside the door – I felt too much pressure to keep checking in at work – emails, voicemails, etc. Again, I comforted myself and addressed my guilt by eating. I treat myself to food. I also became a secret eater. Sometimes I work from home, and when my daughters are younger, I often drop them off at school and then I go to the grocery store where I buy ice cream, cookies and donuts to eat. all day while no one is home. and no one will ever know. I was slowly killing myself.

I feel like an addict who is constantly struggling with that craving – but the main difference is that whether you are an alcoholic or a drug addict, you can completely eliminate those things from your life. But you still have to eat, and that’s an ongoing battle.

How long before you get to your ideal weight? Are you there now?

A year and about 9 months – and yes, I was on goal! I weigh less now than when I got married at the age of 22.

What motivated you to lose weight?

I just feel bad all the time – no energy, I’m starting to have problems with my joints, as well as many other symptoms/issues that are common in obese people, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides, pre -diabetic, etc. Plus, there are some things that people probably don’t associate with obesity …

What made you decide to start your weight loss journey?

Buying clothes is a nightmare I can’t describe. I lived in the “no man’s land” fashion where I needed small plus sizes, which almost no one makes. What I find in my size is usually so ugly, I feel even more unattractive and depressed.

I am miserable in the way I look and feel, but I feel trapped. Just going through my daily life has become very difficult. I was in WW before and lost weight, and I knew the Plan would work if I followed it. Desperate to change my life, I decided to give it another chance.

I started Weight Watchers in January 2011 – promised myself that for the last time I would join, because this time I would reach Lifetime. At first, it was very hard to imagine how much weight I would have to lose, and I knew it would take time. Although it took a while before people around me noticed my weight loss, I immediately felt relieved! Better than I have in a long time.I felt more in control and I knew I was eating healthier food.

What keeps you on track of weight loss?

I haven’t tried to set unrealistic goals for myself or set a time line – I just know it’s something I’ve been on for a long time, and it will last as long as it takes.

My leader, Jacynta, was a great motivator.

Going to his meetings is something I look forward to every week – it’s like a part comedy show, a part firing, and empathy. The people in my group were great too – everyone was supportive and they were so great at making me happy at every milestone. Part of my motivation is not to disappoint them!

Also, my family has been very supportive – each of them has been a very good cheerleader for me, and when they tell me how proud they are of me it gives me a feeling I can’t describe. us about a typical day in terms of diet and exercise.

I’m used to bringing breakfast and lunch to work – that really helps, because I’m not tempted to get lost by the food court or eat out. I also bring lots of healthy snacks – I don’t let myself go hungry. I usually bring fruit and cereal or yogurt for breakfast, and a sandwich or cottage cheese for lunch, and lots of fruit and vegetables to round it up. I always joke that my lunch is like a lumberjack’s lunch, because of the lots of food, but very Points friendly. I like to exercise after work-and try to do different things, between cardio kickboxing and bodyworks classes, as well as some cardio or weight lifting on my own.
