Kellerman’s move official as ESPN shakes up radio lineup again

ESPN is changing its radio line-up again, with Max Kellerman leaving “First Take” to become the third host on Keyshawn Johnson’s morning show.

ESPN officially announced Tuesday that Kellerman would replace Zubin Mehenti as the third anchor on ESPN Radio’s primary morning show, joining returning Keyshawn Johnson and Jay Williams. The show, renamed Keyshawn, JWill and Max, will debut in its new format on September 7th. Kellerman’s move was originally reported by Front Office Sports and the New York Post last week.

Kellerman’s new role will remove him from ESPN’s “First Take,” where he has served as debate partner for Stephen A. Smith since 2016. As the Post first reported, Kellerman will be hosting a new ESPN TV series in addition to his radio role.

Mehenti, who is on medical leave, will return to his previous role at SportsCenter.

Kellerman’s new gig means his current radio show is being scrapped. The first hour of this show becomes the third hour of Bart & Hahn, while the second hour becomes the first hour of the new Canty & Golic Jr. – with Chris Canty replacing Chiney Ogwumike. These shows will enter their extended time slots on September 27th.

Ogwumike, who was in the radio role for just a year, will take on increasing roles as an ESPN college and pro basketball analyst.

The new lineup is just the latest in a series of changes at ESPN Radio since ESPN decided to disband its morning pairing of Mike Golic Sr. and Trey Wingo. In addition to last year’s initial overhaul, ESPN also scrapped Dan Le Batard’s radio show in January.
