Process and Forms to Use If Requesting October 2020 Remote Bar Examination Score Transfer

Although the October 2020 remote bar examination did not render a Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) score, the New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners entered into reciprocal agreements with several jurisdictions permitting the interstate portability of bar examination scores earned on the October 5th-6th, 2020 Remote Bar Examination. Qualifying jurisdictions are listed on our website at https://www.njbarexams.org/october-2020-remote-bar-exam-reciprocal-jurisdictions

Applicants wishing to transfer their October 2020 Remote Bar Examination score earned in one of those qualifying reciprocal jurisdictions, should use the existing UBE score transfer process and forms which currently appear on our website under “UBE Score Transfer Application.” All requirements stated under that section with respect to a Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) score transfer apply to the transportability of your score earned on the October 2020 Remote Bar Examination. Please note, for those seeking admission in New Jersey based on a score earned in a reciprocal jurisdiction, all other requirements for application and plenary admission to the bar, per Rule 1:24-1 (Qualifications and requirements for application) and Rule 1:27-1 (Plenary admission) must be met to qualify for admission to the New Jersey bar.

October 2020 Remote Bar Examination Results will be posted December 22, 2020

The October 2020 remote bar examination results will be posted to User Home Pages December 22, 2020. Please do not call the office, it will take several hours for all results to be posted.

Please note that if you have not provided a law school certificate or have another matter pending, your results have been held. If you have not provided all supplementary documentation, such as driver’s abstracts, documents requested by your reviewing attorney, etc., you cannot be certified for admission. Applicants must pass the exam, be certified by the Committee on Character, AND receive a pass and ready letter on your User Home Page in order to be admitted.

Board Offers February 2021 Remote Uniform Bar Exam

The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners will be offering the February 2021 Bar Examination as a remotely proctored administration of the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). The deadlines for application have been revised. Accordingly, the timely deadline is from October 1st through November 15th, and the FINAL deadline is from November 16th through November 30th.

As a reminder, those who were granted a deferral from the October 2020 Remote Bar Examination to the February 2021 Bar Examination must file a new application. For payment, please indicate “Check or Money Order.”

The website will be updated to provide more details regarding the exam format as they become available.

ExamSoft Upload of Video File

For applicants who may be attempting to finalize the upload of one of their proctoring sessions (video monitoring file), ExamSoft recommends that you keep Examplify on your computer and open until your upload is completed. You do not need to call ExamSoft Technical Support at this time. However, if you feel that your upload is taking an unusual amount of time due to your internet speed, please send an email to: [email protected] so that ExamSoft can track your case and help you transfer your monitoring file. Please be sure to include your name and the email address associated with your bar exam (return phone number optional). ExamSoft will review your situation and notify you if any additional action is required.

https://bar.examsoft.io/njbar

https://ei.examsoft.com/GKWeb/login/njbar

For Non-standard time applicants (i.e., those who have been granted an ADA accommodation), passwords will be posted here to the Board of Bar Examiners website as announcements.

ExamSoft Technical Support on Exam Day

For any technical support, all applicants must contact ExamSoft support at 888-816-3065 or, if calling Internationally, at: 1-954-429-8889. You may want to store this number in your phone so it is handy. This number is exclusively for bar exam applicants.

Direct all inquiries to ExamSoft at either the phone number or Chat. Chat assistance is available from the lower right hand side of the screen when you enter the URL http://bar.examsoft.com/support. This may be another site you want to bookmark. The live online Chat assistance will be accessible until Internet access is cutoff by Examplify. The Board of Bar Examiners will not be able to assist you with technical problems.

Rarely, an applicant may experience a technical issue mid-exam. These types of issues can often be resolved by rebooting the device. Press and hold the power button until the computer is completely off, wait 5 seconds, and then restart your device. Once Examplify restarts, it will return to within 59 seconds of where you left off in the exam. DO NOT CLOSE OR EXIT the exam, as you will be unable to re-enter and your exam session will end. If you are out of the exam for more than a few minutes, you will need to call ExamSoft support.

February 2021 Bar Applications are Open.

Applications for the February 2021 New Jersey Bar Examination are open. The timely deadline is October 31st, the late deadline is November 15th, and the FINAL deadline is November 30th.

As a reminder, those who were granted a deferral from the October 2020 Remote Bar Examination to the February 2021 Bar Examination, must file a new application. For payment, please indicate “Check or Money Order.”

Examplify Application Upgrade and Exam Files Availability

Bar exam files will be available for applicants to download on September 28. ExamSoft will be sending applicants an email with instructions to download the exam files. The Board of Bar Examiners strongly encourages applicants to be vigilant for ExamSoft’s instructional email, and to download the exam files as soon as they become available. Doing so will ensure that applicants have ample time to work through any unexpected technical concerns so those issues are not faced on the day of the exam.

When applicants download the exam files, they also will download an upgrade to the Examplify application. This upgrade addresses the specific cut and paste feature from and across shared devices (e.g., multiple Apple devices), and prevents that feature from being available across devices for use during secure exams. This upgrade does not affect the cut, copy, and paste functions within the Examplify application itself (e.g., copying from the notes section to the answer text).

Applicants will be automatically prompted to update the software during the week of September 28 when they login to download the bar exam files. ExamSoft regularly pushes new updates to users, and this update will not disrupt other functions of the application. For added assurance and experience with the application, applicants will be granted an additional opportunity to take Mock Exam 2 after installing the upgrade. Although downloading the software upgrade is mandatory, participation in the additional mock exam is entirely optional, and is not required in order to take the exam.

ExamSoft Mock Exam Deadlines

As a reminder, the due date for completing mock Exam 1 and Mock Exam 2 was September 18. Applicants who have not completed Mock Exam 1 and Mock Exam 2 will be de-activated on September 24th (unless they have a pending support ticket) and will NOT be able to take the exam.

COVID-19 – October 2020 Remote Bar Examination – Scratch Paper Permitted for MPT ONLY

The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners will permit applicants to use scratch paper on the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) portion of the exam ONLY. This change is being made due to the length of the MPT materials, limited screen space, and the current highlighting functionality available in the ExamSoft software. Please note that scratch paper may NOT be used on the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) or Multistate Bar Examination (MBE). Use of scratch paper on the MEE or MBE will result in further investigation.

The Supreme Court and the Board of Bar Examiners announced today that, due to the ongoing public health emergency arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Jersey bar examination will not be administered on July 28 and July 29, 2020 as previously scheduled. The bar examination has been postponed until the Fall. For full details, see Supreme Court Order, dated April 6, 2020 by clicking here.

If you already submitted your complete July 2020 bar examination application, you do not need to take any further action. If you already began your application for the July 2020 examination, you may continue completing your application. We will be updating our website to notify you regarding extended deadlines.

The Board of Bar Examiners, in consultation with the Supreme Court, will continue to closely monitor public health and safety guidelines, including prohibitions against large gatherings, related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the event that limitations on large gatherings continue to interfere with a Fall administration of the New Jersey bar examination, alternative means for testing of applicants for New Jersey bar admission will be devised and announced.
