How long have you lived in Broomfield: 45 years

Professional Background: Senior program manager with 25 years of proven experience, including tax responsibility for spending federal taxpayer dollars under federal contracts.

With the City and County of Broomfield on the verge of full expansion, what facilities or amenities are missing in Broomfield that you would like to see built and why?

Broomfield is 34 square miles, but the shape of our borders, about 20 miles long and about 5 miles wide, actually creates the complexity of offering city and county services. Most of these ministries are centered in South Broomfield, hindering the growth of North Broomfield’s citizenship. As our northern countries develop, so does the need to implement outreach and satellite services such as parks, recreation centers, libraries, health and social services, automobile services, and transportation. Broomfield’s voters represent an expanded community of interests that the city leadership seeks to serve through financial responsibility, strategic thinking and visionary approaches.

With rental and home prices continuing to rise, how do you plan to create affordable and accessible housing in Broomfield?

Some people might think that the basic laws of supply and demand are the answer. Broomfield is Colorado’s #1 growing community. Real estate prices are not stabilizing. This is a complex issue with multi-layered solutions. I have experience solving similar problems throughout my professional career. The median home price is $450,000. It takes $140,000 in income to buy a home in Broomfield at that price. Broomfield’s median annual income (AMI) is about $98,000, which equates to a house price of about $300,000. To achieve real estate prices of around $300,000, we need to offer more multifamily products like condos and townhomes. This would include addressing construction defect laws and working with the state to make changes that would directly lower home prices. Additionally, ensuring a sustainable financial future is key for Broomfield to keep housing within reach of all and keep residents in their homes.

Broomfield has long been considered a “bedroom community”. How will you ensure that Broomfield’s growth is equitable and allows individuals to both work and live in Broomfield?

A hallmark of dormitories is that they have limited large-scale industry to support the workforce. A bedroom community usually has homes, schools, and some commercial/retail options. Broomfield has not been a bedroom community for many years. In 18 years (2002-2019) employment in Broomfield grew by 68%, exceeding the national rate of 35%. In 2019, Broomfield ranked in the top 5 of all 64 Colorado counties for job growth. Uniquely located between Denver and Boulder, Broomfield offers Broomfield residents “the best of all worlds” from a variety of job markets. This fact makes Broomfield attractive to the real estate industry and employers.

State political parties endorse Broomfield City Council candidates

October 22 – Broomfield’s 12 city council and mayoral candidates all have the support of state political parties.

The Colorado Republican Party encouraged residents to vote for Kimberly Groom for mayor, Chriss Hammerschmidt for Ward 1 councillor, Brent Hultman for Ward 2, Brian Peotter for Ward 3, Mindy Quiachon for Ward 4, and Grayson Hofferber for Ward 5.

“In Broomfield, you should see some or all of these names on your ballot. Please vote FOR them and help us bring back measured, responsible leadership,” the Colorado GOP said in an email.

The Colorado Democratic Party introduced the six remaining Broomfield candidates in an email: Guyleen Castriotta for mayor, James Marsh-Holschen for Ward 1, Austin Ward for Ward 2, Deven Shaff for Ward 3, Bruce Leslie for Ward 4 and Todd Cohen for Ward 5.

“As the late, great Democratic Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill famously said, ‘All politics is local,'” read the Democratic Party email. “We couldn’t agree more – ballot races often elect the most local and influential offices, and we want you to know which Democrats are running for your local races!”

According to voterrecords.com, Groom, Hultman, Peotter, Quiachon, and Hofferber are affiliated with the Republican Party, and Hammerschmidt is not affiliated. Castriotta, Marsh-Holschen, Ward, Shaff and Cohen are affiliated with the Democratic Party and Leslie is not affiliated with it.
