Joseph Harroz Jr., who has served in various leadership positions at the University of Oklahoma for over 25 years, was named OU’s 15th President on May 9, 2020. Harroz’s previous service at the university includes a one-year tenure as interim president, nine years as dean of the College of Law, 12 years as general counsel, and two years as vice president for executive affairs.

As President of OU, Harroz led the development of the University’s Strategic Plan – a comprehensive strategy that positions OU as one of the nation’s leading public research universities, distinguished by a transformative student experience. At the core of the plan is the university’s fundamental purpose – We Change Lives – three small but powerful words that have deep meaning. The full roadmap is available at ou.edu/leadon.

Under Harroz’s leadership, OU is making progress toward the fulfillment of the strategic plan. In the fall of 2021, OU welcomed its largest, most diverse, and best academically qualified class in the school’s 131-year history—a quarter of which are first-generation college students. The research landscape at OU has evolved tremendously over the past year, with OU achieving a record high of $445.9 million in research awards earned through grants and external funding from OU faculty and staff. Oklahoma’s healthcare sector takes a major step forward with the historic merger formalized on July 1, 2021 between OU and the University Hospitals Authority and Trust to bring their clinics and hospitals into Oklahoma’s first comprehensive academic healthcare system – OU Health – that offers a seamless patient experience with improved outcomes, research-driven care, and access to the latest treatments not found anywhere else in the state. The university’s move to join the Southeastern Conference in 2025 will uphold OU’s tradition in athletics at the national level, strengthen the university as a whole, and serve the broader interests of the state of Oklahoma.

Donald J. “Don” Wetekam is the first Brock Executive in Residence for the Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, a position he has held since 2018. In this role, he interacts with students, faculty, and staff to provide an internship, executive-level perspective on leadership, ethics, and related topics. In addition to his responsibilities at the Engineering College, Don also works with the University’s Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships as Chief Strategist for the newly formed Oklahoma Aerospace & Defense Innovation Institute.

Prior to entering college, Don served 34 years of active duty in the US Air Force, retiring in 2007 as a Lieutenant General. After his Air Force career, he served 11 years as an officer with AAR Corporation, a global aerospace services company.
