Who Killed Terry Porter Where is Ladarius Hardy Now

Investigation Discovery’s “See No Evil: I’d Kill to be You” is an episode chronicling the brutal murder of Terry Porter, an Atlanta entrepreneur, who was found dead in his front yard in 2012. With no witnesses or concrete forensic evidence, the detectives in charge used surveillance footage to identify the killer, leading them to a manhunt they never anticipated. This particular case shook the Southwest Atlanta area due to the heinousness and selfishness etched into every aspect of the crime. Curious to know all the details about it? We’ll cover you.

How did Terry Porter die?

Terry Porter has been described as a “lifelong Atlantan humanitarian” who became known in his community for his charitable and selfless work to benefit the elderly, the disabled and the less fortunate. Terry Porter was a man loved by everyone. Therefore, when the 39-year-old local businessman was found dead by a neighbor next to his home on the 1000 block of Gordon Street in Atlanta, Georgia, around 7 a.m. on November 12, 2012, no one could believe it. And as it soon turned out, his death was nothing more than cold-blooded murder.

When authorities got to the scene, they found that Terry had been shot execution-style – with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. His mobile phone, Range Rover and wallet had been stolen, along with his inside-out pockets, leading local officials to believe the motive behind the successful businessman’s killing was a robbery gone awry and theft of a car. But although police later recovered Terry’s vehicle from a nearby Midtown apartment complex, it revealed nothing about the killer’s identity or any evidence.

Who Killed Terry Porter?

As the investigation began, some of Terry’s neighbors revealed they heard gunshots around 2am that same night. But neither of them actually saw where the shots were fired or how Terry died. With no bystanders, authorities had to use tools like Terry’s phone records, credit card receipts and CCTV surveillance footage to find the perpetrator. Some time later, police released video of a Texaco on Peachtree Street right after Terry was shot, showing someone inside the store then driving away in their Range Rover. This eventually led them to identify the attacker as Ladarius Hardy.

About a month after the murder, United States Marshals found Ladarius hiding with one of his friends in Conyers, armed yet locked in a bedroom. He was subsequently charged and arrested for a range of offenses including first degree murder, robbery and auto theft. Although Atlanta police had already decided on a motive, Terry’s brother felt there had to be more to the story, especially since the businessman was “6’7.” There’s no way [Ladarius Hardy] could do it alone, not even with a gun.” However, there is no evidence that Ladarius could have had an accomplice.

In addition, authorities said Terry had known Ladarius before, revealing that the two met while the former was trying to help the latter find a job and safe housing. In the end, Ladarius, who had been transferred to the Fulton County Jail, pleaded guilty to the charges against him. This was to prevent his case from going to trial and facing the death penalty, which would have been imminent given his heinous acts and the evidence against him. Ladarius, who is believed to be responsible for another carjacking in Chamblee in early November 2012, eventually received a total of two life sentences plus 25 years.

Where is Ladarius Hardy now?

Ladarius Hardy is reportedly being held at Telfair State Prison on Long Bridge Road in Helena, Telfair County, Georgia today, aged 31, serving his sentence on all charges against him. They each include one count of murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm while committing a crime, and fraudulent use of a credit card.

According to his plea agreement, Ladarius “was facing the death penalty, but after extensive discussions with the victim’s family, the state decided it was appropriate to allow the accused to plead guilty.” As a result, he received a total of two life sentences plus an additional 25 years for the related charges in the matter.
