Dita Von Teese doesn’t want to remarry

Dita Von Teese will not remarry.

The 49-year-old burlesque star has been in a relationship with Adam Rajcevich since 2014, but she insisted she would not commit to the 47-year-old visual director because of her brief relationship with Marilyn Manson, who she married in November 2005 , but filed for divorce a year later — has left her feeling like she “doesn’t feel the need” to walk down the aisle a second time.

She said HELLO! Magazine: “I don’t think about [marriage] at all. I’ve had a big disgusting wedding and a disgusting divorce and I don’t feel the need to do it again.”

Dita – whose real name is Heather Sweet – is very content with her life and doesn’t see her stage persona as an alter ego.

She said: “I surround myself with friends who are nice, love animals like me and have a good sense of humor.

“And I love my work, the joy, fun and playfulness of burlesque fused with striptease. But Dita isn’t my alter ego, she’s me, the person I’ve always wanted to be.”

The black-haired beauty insisted she wasn’t worried about getting older.

She added: “I watch older women – like one with pink hair still snowboarding in a bikini – and they show me that age doesn’t matter. I still want to evolve to make me more alluring and exciting on stage.

“I’m pretty much always good at what I do and there’s no reason to be afraid of getting older.”

However, Dita admitted she’s not always comfortable in her own skin, but she’s learned how to boost her confidence.

She explained: “As far as body confidence goes, it’s not a magical feeling I always have. When I get into the dressing room, like everyone else, I’m traumatized by the fluorescent lighting above me.

“To boost my confidence, I use beautiful, soft pink spotlights and wear lingerie that makes me feel good.

“I love to feel glamorous and sexy. But glamor is a quality that is accessible to all of us. It’s not about age, shape, skin color, private jets or how much money you have.

“It’s just as easy to look seductive with a 99-cent lipstick.”

Dita Von Teese

American vedette, burlesque dancer, model and businesswoman

Heather Renée Sweet (born September 28, 1972), known professionally as Dita Von Teese, is an American vedette, burlesque dancer, model, and businesswoman.[1] She is credited with repopulating burlesque performance, earning her the nickname “Queen of Burlesque”.[2][3][4][5]

Von Teese has appeared in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Masked Dancer, The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, among others. She is also known for her brief marriage to singer Marilyn Manson as well as her appearances in his music videos. Von Teese has published two books on burlesque history, fetishism and beauty. She has also recorded songs with French musician Sébastien Tellier. She has toured the world with her burlesque shows in cities like London, Berlin, New York and Paris. Some of her special guests on the tours include Dirty Martini, Perle Noire, Ginger Valentine, Jett Adore and Playboy model Gia Genevieve. Von Teese was a special guest at the Crazy Horse in Paris several times. Her 2016 show resulted in a DVD release. From 2006 to 2008, Von Teese was a spokesperson for Viva Glam for MAC Cosmetics to raise money for HIV/AIDS research. She was Cointreau’s global ambassador from 2007 to 2013 and the face of Perrier from 2010 to 2011. She has also created four perfumes under the Dita Von Teese Perfumes brand. She also has her own lingerie brand, stockings called Secrets in Lace and luxury cardigans for Australian online store Wheels & Dollbaby.

Early life[edit]

Von Teese was born in Rochester, Michigan, the second of three daughters.[6] Describing her hometown, she says, “It’s a universe far from the colored lights of Hollywood and Paris. But on weekend afternoons, my mom and I had a front seat on a rocket ship that took us through the old movies to those faraway worlds with the most glamorous creatures – Betty Grable, Mae West, Carmen Miranda, Marlene Dietrich… They were our muses.”[ 7] Her father was a machinist and her mother a manicurist.[6][8] She is of English, Scottish, Armenian and German descent.[9] Von Teese has stated that one of her grandmothers was half-Armenian and was adopted into an Anglo-Saxon American family.[10] Von Teese is known for her fascination with 1940s cinema and classic vintage style. This started at a young age and was encouraged by her mother buying clothes for her daughter to wear. Her mother was a fan of old Hollywood films from the Golden Age, and von Teese developed a fascination with the actresses of the time, especially Betty Grable.

She was classically trained as a ballet dancer from an early age and by the age of 13 was dancing solo for a local ballet company. Though she originally wanted to be a ballerina, Von Teese says, “At 15 I was my best.”[8] She would later incorporate this element into her burlesque shows, where she frequently goes en pointe. The family relocated from Michigan to Orange County, California when her father changed jobs. Von Teese attended University High School in Irvine, California.[11]

When Von Teese was a teenager, her mother took her to buy her first bra, made out of plain white cotton, and gave her a plastic egg with a pair of crumpled, nude pantyhose.[11] Von Teese says she was disappointed as she was hoping to receive beautiful lace dresses and stockings like the ones she had seen in her father’s Playboy magazines. This fueled her passion for lingerie. At 15 she worked in a lingerie shop as a saleswoman, later as a buyer. Since then, von Teese has enjoyed wearing elaborate lingerie such as corsets and basques with fully fashioned stockings. In college, Von Teese studied period costume and aspired to work as a film stylist. She is a trained costume designer and often designs (and copyrights) her photo shoots herself.[12]

At 18, Von Teese had her famous Beauty Mark tattooed on her left cheek.[13] In her first book, she tells how she first went to a strip club when she was 19 and was soon employed at a cosmetics counter alongside her day job. Stunned by the other strippers’ lack of originality, she wanted to add vintage and fetish style to her performance.

Career [edit]

Von Teese chose her stage name by adopting the name Dita as a tribute to silent film actress Dita Parlo. For her groundbreaking Playboy cover in December 2002, she needed a surname, so she chose “Von Treese” from the phone book. Playboy misspelled Von Teese’s name, a name she then kept.[14] Von Teese is known for her signature painted eyes, heavily drawn brows, a smear of crimson lipstick, and blue-black locks. She says: “I have my signature look and I stick with it because it’s the look that’s 100 percent me and 100 percent created by me. I could be a one trick for this. But it’s pretty good trick!”[15]

Fetish and glamor modeling[ edit ]

Von Teese gained some recognition in the fetish world as a tightlacer. Through years of wearing a corset, she had reduced her waist to 56 cm (22 in) and can be laced up to 42 cm (16.5 in).[16]

Von Teese has appeared on numerous fetish magazine covers, including Bizarre[17] and Marquis.[18] It was around this time that she appeared on the cover of Midori’s book The Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage.[19] Von Teese appeared in Playboy in 1999, 2001 and 2002, with a cover picture in 2002. German metal band Atrocity chose her as the cover model for their 2008 album Werk 80 II. [20]

She has stated in print, “I love fetish for its transformative powers and also for its beauty.” Her vintage fetish history heroes include John Willie, Bettie Page, and Irving Klaw.[21]

Burlesque[ edit ]

Von Teese is a well-known neo-burlesque artist.

Best known for her burlesque routines, von Teese is frequently referred to in the press as the “Queen of Burlesque”. Von Teese began performing burlesque in 1992 and, as a proponent of neo-burlesque, has helped popularize its revival.[24] In her own words, she “brings the striptease back on track” with long, lavish dance shows featuring props and characters often inspired by 1930s and 1940s musicals and films. Some of her more famous dances included a carousel horse, a giant powder compact, a filigree heart, and a claw-foot bathtub with a working showerhead. Her feather fan dance, inspired by burlesque dancer Sally Rand, featured the world’s largest feather fan, now on display at the Hollywood Museum of Sex.[25]

Von Teese’s signature acts include:

The martini glass

The Opium Den

Le Bain Noir (reimagined for the 2009 Crazy Horse Show)

bird of paradise

Lazy (based on Marilyn Monroe’s appearance on There’s No Business Like Show Business)

) The champagne glass

The Black Swan (based on the ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky)

Her burlesque career has included some memorable performances. She once appeared at a benefit for the New York Academy of Art wearing nothing but diamonds worth $5 million.[26] In addition, Von Teese became the first guest star at the Crazy Horse cabaret club in Paris with her performance in October 2006.[27] In 2006, Von Teese appeared in an episode of America’s Next Top Model (Cycle 7) and conducted a workshop to teach contestants sensuality through burlesque dancing and posing. In 2007, Von Teese performed alongside Italian rock band Belladonna at the adult entertainment event Erotica 07 in London.

Von Teese’s first book (in collaboration with Bronwyn Garrity) consisting of her opinions on the history of burlesque and fetish, Burlesque and the Art of the Teese / Fetish and the Art of the Teese, was published by HarperCollins in 2006 (and in New York by Regan Books).[30] Vanity Fair called her a “burlesque superhero.”[31]

Von Teese took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, Russia as part of the stage performance for the German entry “Miss Kiss Kiss Bang”. The Tat finished 20th out of 25 participants in the final round of the competition.[32] She later said her cleavage was censored during the show because it was too full.[33]

Von Teese has toured the world with four full-length revues: “Strip, Strip Hooray”, “The Art of the Teese”, “Dita Von Teese and the Copper Coupe” and the 2019 “Glamonatrix” tour (postponed due to COVID -19 pandemic), which will continue in Europe and the UK in 2022.

Television and acting[edit]

Von Teese has acted in adult and mainstream films. In her early years, she appeared in fetish-related soft-core porn films such as Romancing Sara, Matter of Trust (in which she is billed under her real name, Heather Sweet) and also in two Andrew Blake hardcore fetish films, Pin Ups 2[34] and decadence.

She has appeared in mainstream features such as the 2005 short film The Death of Salvador Dali, written by Delaney Bishop, which won Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography at SXSW, Raindance Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival and Best Actress Award at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. She starred in the 2007 feature film Saint Francis.[35]

Additionally, she has appeared in a number of music videos including the video for the Green Day song “Redundant”, the video for swing band Royal Crown Revue’s “Zip Gun Bop”, the Agent Provocateur video for their cover of “Joy Divisions” She’s Lost Control” and (performing her martini glass burlesque routine) the video for Marilyn Manson’s “Mobscene”.[37] She was featured in a striptease/burlesque act in George Michael’s 2008 live tour for the song “Feelin’ Good”. She also appeared in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 as the central character in the German entry Miss Kiss Kiss Bang by Alex Swings, Oscar Sings.[39] She also appeared in the Thirty Seconds to Mars music video “Up in the Air” in 2013.[40]

She explained in 2007, “I don’t understand why women feel the need to get into acting once they become famous… But I suppose if the role was aesthetically correct, maybe I could consider it.”[41 ]

In January 2011, Von Teese guest-starred on the CBS drama series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which co-starred with her boyfriend Eric Szmanda in the episode “A Kiss Before Frying.” She played Rita from Squeeze, a femme fatale version of herself who seduces Szmanda’s character Greg Sanders in a film noir-inspired storyline.

In 2021, Von Teese appeared in the UK version of the Fox TV series The Masked Dancer, masquerading as Beetroot. On May 31, 2021, she became the third celebrity to be unmasked.

In September 2021, Von Teese was a contestant on the eleventh season of Danse avec les stars, the French version of Dancing with the Stars.

Fashion and modeling[ edit ]

Von Teese has appeared on a number of best-dressed lists[43] and attends the front row of runway shows, notably by Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier and Marc Jacobs, labels she often wears. Von Teese said of her love for Gaultier: “Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood were the first designers who really impressed me. Jean Paul shares many of the same obsessions as me, such as corsetry, peachy ballet satin and silk, black silk velvet, bullet bras, and girdles. When I was a teenager, I searched for 1930s peachy satin lingerie pieces to try and get his look for less because I couldn’t afford his things back then. It was a dream to meet him and become friends with him. I first met him when I was doing my first fashion picture which was for Flaunt magazine and it was a big story wearing the most important pieces from his haute couture archive and that was a dream!” [44]

She has also done catwalk work. During Spring 2004 Los Angeles Fashion Week, she modeled for Heatherette, former club kid Richie Rich’s fashion label. In 2005 she performed in the fall/winter ready-to-wear show for Giambattista Valli, a former designer for Ungaro, in Paris. Von Teese was on the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week 2006 and opened the 2006/7 fall/winter show for the Moschino sales label Moschino Cheap & Chic. In 2007, she appeared twice in Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture show during Paris Fashion Week and again in 2014. She starred in several advertising campaigns. She appeared in Vivienne Westwood’s Spring/Summer 2005 ads and became the face of Australian clothing line Wheels and Dollbaby for their Spring/Summer 2006/7 ad campaign. She was an HIV/AIDS awareness ambassador/speaker when she was selected (along with Eve, Debbie Harry and Lisa Marie Presley) for MAC Cosmetics’ Viva Glam VI campaign (a collection of lipsticks and lip glosses marking the 100th anniversary of the branding). % of proceeds go to global AIDS relief organizations and to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS). Von Teese has appeared in Vanity Fair, Vogue, Elle[45] and international editions of almost every fashion magazine.

Von Teese states that she never uses a stylist. “Once when I hired a stylist, he took a pair of my 1940s shoes and said, ‘These would look really cute with jeans.’ I immediately said, ‘You’re out of here.'” She does her makeup and dyes her naturally blonde hair black at home.[8] Von Teese’s unique style is “inspired by eccentric women like Luisa Casati, Anna Piaggi and Isabella Blow.”[46] She also says, “Doing it yourself is a matter of integrity and pride. I look forward to stepping out of the world and honestly saying, “Yes, I did that.” I love the confidence it gives me. I would feel like a cheat otherwise. The truth is, it takes less time [as a stylist] to do it myself. It’s so much more fun too! Why should I deny myself such pure pleasure?”[47]

With Wonderbra she has designed a new series of lingerie.[48] One of Von Teese’s trademarks is the suspender belt with six garters instead of the usual four, with two each at the front, side seams, and back.[49] In May 2012, Von Teese launched her Classics makeup collection in partnership with German cosmetics brand Art Deco. Powder, blush, eye styler, eye shadow, mascara and lipstick were made to recreate the retro look of the burlesque performer.[50]

In 2012, Von Teese launched her own clothing line[51] and lingerie line called Von Follies.[52][53] In 2013 she was both model and muse for the 3D printed dress “Dita” designed by Michael Schmidt and Francis Bitonti and 3D printed by Shapeways to fit her body perfectly.[54] Composed of over 3,000 interlocking 3D printed components and over 12,000 Swarovski crystals, it is one of the first fully articulated 3D printed garments, translating haute couture technology into a sensual, fabric-like form.[55]

Von Teese has also worked to create her own fragrances. Her first was called Dita Von Teese (released in Fall 2011) and is described by her as a “glamor mood setter”. Her second was called Rouge (released November 2012) and is described as “emotional seduction”. The third FleurTeese (released Spring 2013) is for romance and Erotique (released Fall 2013) is an erotic mood setting.[56] She says: “I was longing for something that would appeal to those of us who don’t hesitate to declare that we are women. Too many best-selling scents are so fruity and vanilla with a cloyingly sweet air that a mere spray gives me a toothache. Or they smell like cake. I don’t want to smell like cake!”[57]

In 2014, Von Teese began working with Myer, an Australian department store, on a lingerie line hosted by Australian model Stefania Ferrario.[58]

On January 22, 2020, Von Teese walked into the final Jean Paul Gaultier couture runway show in Paris.[59]

Personal life[edit]

Von Teese practices Pilates and dressage. Her home is a Tudor Revival residence in the Hollywood Hills, dedicated to early 20th-century decor, including antique taxidermy, a pub house, and a glass box containing Bettie Page’s vintage fetish shoes. Von Teese claims that her house doesn’t have white walls, which she fears.[60] She also has a room dedicated to shoes.

She is a collector of vintage china, particularly egg cups and tea sets,[61] and drives vintage cars. Among other classic cars, she owned a 1939 Chrysler New Yorker from 1997 to 2010.[62] She says: “I live to surround myself with everyday things that are beautiful. I serve my homemade petit fours on china bases and sip tea from floral teacups, adorable gems from my flea market treasure hunt. I keep a vintage style cosmetic brush vase cast like ladies’ heads complete with glamor jars and makeup. I always have a nice compact with me, maybe one that sold for next to nothing on eBay.”[7]

After her marriage to Marilyn Manson ended in 2007, Von Teese began dating French Count Louis-Marie de Castelbajac from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, she had a brief relationship with singer Theo Hutchcraft.

Von Teese has been in a relationship with graphic designer Adam Rajcevich since 2014.[63]

Von Teese’s famous best friends include shoe designer Christian Louboutin, who designs shoes for her shows, burlesque performer and seamstress Catherine D’lish, and writer Liz Goldwyn.

Marriage to Marilyn Manson[edit]

Marilyn Manson was a longtime fan of hers and a member of her website. They first met when he asked her to dance in one of his music videos and although she couldn’t, the two stayed in touch. On Manson’s 32nd birthday in 2001[64] she arrived with a bottle of absinthe and they became a couple. Manson proposed to her on March 22, 2004, and gave her a 1930s engagement ring with a 7-carat (1.4 g) round-cut European diamond. On November 28, 2005, they were married in a private, non-denominational ceremony at home. A major ceremony was held on December 3 at Gurteen de la Poer Castle in Kilsheelan (County Tipperary), Ireland, home of her boyfriend Gottfried Helnwein. The wedding was celebrated by the surrealist film director and comic author Alejandro Jodorowsky. The event was featured in Vogue. Dita wore a royal purple silk taffeta dress made by Vivienne Westwood, a triangular hat designed by Stephen Jones and a matching corset by Mr. Pearl. Christian Louboutin designed her shoes.[65]

On December 29, 2006, Von Teese filed for divorce from Manson, citing “irreconcilable differences”. Von Teese left her home empty-handed on Christmas Eve and was unable to contact Manson to inform him of her intention to divorce him. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Von Teese explained: “I wasn’t supporting his parties or his relationship with another girl. As much as I loved him, I wouldn’t participate.” Von Teese also stated that she gave Manson an ultimatum, saying that “it didn’t work. Instead, it made me an enemy.”[67] Von Teese didn’t seek one spousal support and expressed no interest in his estate.[66] ] The news broke to the public and to Manson on his birthday on January 5, 2007, when the divorce papers were served to him.

In a 2016 interview, Von Teese said, “I dated him for seven years, we were only married a year and I feel like getting married was like the ‘kiss of death’ for us because it was like he was a nail in the coffin. I kind of felt compelled to go through with the ceremony because there was so much involved. Vogue photographed it and it was in this castle and it was like this theater … I’m not going to beat myself up for being in different relationships and not finding a person to be with until the end of my days.” [68]

If you’re still looking for a way to get in shape for the summer of 2018, why not take inspiration from one of the sexiest women in the world? Dita Von Teese shared how she gets that insane hourglass figure (alongside the corsets, of course) and it’s something you can totally use in your own life to get amazing results without starving yourself!

First off, Dita is the perfect woman to look up to when it comes to #bodygoals. That’s because she’s more interested in being healthy than being skinny. “Forget the beach body stuff; find role models that you actually want to emulate and appreciate different kinds of beauty,” she told Hello! Mag in 2015. “I’m someone who’s never had your typical beach body.” She says she’s more into “other idols — Rita Hayworth, Hedy Lamarr … I looked at these totally beautiful women and I was like, ‘I can go for that ‘” admired instead of looking at the Victoria’s Secret girls, also under Dita’s guidance.

Dita doesn’t believe in dieting, instead she has a number of “disciplines” to keep her healthy. She told Vogue in 2014 that she likes to start her day with “a tall glass of water, preferably with fresh lemon” after seven to nine hours of sleep. She also “does Pilates every morning,” and you can bet she looks chic doing it. “I wear my Pilates ‘uniform’ or black capris, a fitted black or white t-shirt, ballet flats, and either a coat or skirt. I always wear a touch of powder and matte red lipstick and always a chignon. And of course, “I’d love to have sex too!” That’s advice to live by, folks!

So what is she eating? Although Dita isn’t vegan, she told Bon Appetit in 2015 that she likes to “eat vegan before 6pm so I can feel free to eat whenever I want.” I love good vegan restaurants and I’m interested in consuming less animal products, plus I have more energy when I don’t eat meat.” She also tries to be “totally vegan” at least three days a week. What does she eat before 6 p.m.?

“I like to make my smoothie every morning, which is 70 percent veg and 30 percent fruit, and I mix it with water — that’s my breakfast,” she told Hello! Mag. “For lunch I have a salad or a veggie soup and for dinner maybe a quinoa or brown rice dish.” Sharing other ideas with Bon Appetit, Dita said, “I always have a few takeout items like eggs, avocado and millet bread. I love toasted gluten free bread with avocado and truffle or smoked sea salt on top. I like to pour eggs in broth or cook them in ramekins with sautéed mushrooms and herbs. I like to make big pots of kabocha squash or parsnip soup, and I always have arugula and cherry tomatoes so I can make an easy salad with a touch of rice can vinegar and olive oil and some pine nuts.” She also loves to spice up her food with a spicy gourmet mustard.

So what about after 6pm if she wants something more indulgent? “My vice is slurping down really good tacos with a nice smoky shot of mezcal. I also love the occasional In-N-Out burger or room service burger at 3am after a show,” she told Bon Appetit. She also loves a good drink, but not a sugary one. “I love a properly made dirty dry vodka martini,” she said. “I don’t like drinks that are too sweet, and I don’t like drinking my calories.”

A cute thing she loves? Dessert! She doesn’t want just any sugar bomb, however, and she doesn’t need much to satisfy her cravings. “The smell of something cinnamony came from the open kitchen,” she described to Grub Street in 2012. “We called the chef and asked what it was. Freshly baked beignets? We asked for a bite. Two minutes later came a single small fritter with chocolate filling and two forks. Perfect. I’m a bit of a dessert snob, true. I’m not on a diet; I reserve my indulgences when it’s worth it. Another dessert that was “worth it” was a bite of a chocolate chip cookie the following night.

“These disciplines work for me, they make me feel like I’m doing something right and they keep me from having to diet,” she explained. “I’m just trying to stay sane.” If we can eat like Dita and still have a great body, then that’s reasonable enough for us! Thanks for the tip Dita!
