Alex Bars (born September 8, 1995) is an American football guard for the Las Vegas Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Notre Dame and was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears after the 2019 NFL Draft as an undrafted free agent.
College career[edit]
Bars was a member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for five seasons. He spent his freshman year on the scout team before playing in six games with two starts as a sophomore. He started all 12 of Notre Dame’s games at right tackle as a junior and all 13 of his senior year’s games at left guard. Bars returned as a graduate student for a fifth season of NCAA eligibility and was named a preseason All-American by the Sporting News, but demolished his MCL and ACL five games into the season against Stanford. During his collegiate career, Bars played in 36 games from 32 starts.

Chicago Bears[edit]
Bars signed as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears on May 2, 2019.[5] Bars were waived at the end of training camp during final roster cuts, but were reinstated on the team’s training roster on September 1, 2019. The Bears promoted Bars to the active roster on October 15, 2019.[8] He made his NFL debut on November 28, 2019 against the Detroit Lions.[9] Bars played in five games in his rookie season.[10]
Bars got off to a career start on November 8, 2020 with a 17-24 loss to the Tennessee Titans, setting up at center despite never playing the position and playing all of the Bears’ 77 offensive snaps with a botched snap ] Bars played in all 16 regular season games, beginning the last eight with one start at center, one start at left guard and six starts at right guard. On March 3, 2021, he signed a contract extension with the team.[13]
Las Vegas Raiders[edit]
On March 27, 2022, Bars signed a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders.[14]

With the departure of two All-Americans and two first-round draft picks, it’s up to the captains, one of whom is Alex Bars, to bring this group together.
For Alex, the season opener against Michigan means a lot more than just x and o.
As a Notre Dame player, there’s no greater thrill than hearing that Michigan is on the schedule.
But for 5th Year Senior Captain Alex Bars, playing the Maze and the Blues means a lot more than just beating his rival.
“We have to play them in my freshman year. And that was when my brother was playing for Michigan,” Alex said.
Alex’s brother Blake was a Wolverine from 2011 to 2016.
“My brother was away. And it was a home game. I was a redshirt newbie. Luckily I was able to get dressed. Luckily we beat Michigan. After that, my brother was still disappointed, hugged me, talked a bit and took a picture. I think it’s so rare that two brothers play college football. And being able to walk across the field and talk. It’s pretty special,” Alex said.
In 2014, the two met at Notre-Dame Stadium after the game on the field.
“To see Alex go all the way from being a freshman when I played here and I was a senior to playing again in Michigan is really special,” Blake said.
And now the brothers have a special bond off the pitch too!
In 2016, Blake decided to forgo a 5th year and applied to law school, where else? Notre Dame!
“He wanted to get his own place and I wanted to get my own place and then we thought, let’s just get our own place. It’s convenient, it’s right down the road, it’ll be a nice break,” Blake said.
And yes, the two live together!
But seeing each other outside of their off-campus apartment is rare!
“He comes back and goes to his room. He is studying law. All he does is read and sketch,” Alex said.
While Blake is knee-deep in books, deep in the trenches, Alex carries on the Bars family legacy that began with her father, Joe, who was a six-foot-five linebacker at Notre Dame.
Brad, the eldest brother, also played college football at Penn State.
Lauren, the youngest in the family, plays volleyball.
“I know ‘Q’ is the most respectful guy for women. And you’d rather know the guy than not know him. She’s down with old miss so I’m really glad she’s with ‘Q’,” Alex said.
Alex’s good friend and former All-American Quentin Nelson is dating Lauren Bars!
It is Nelson who influenced Alex the most during his time at Notre Dame.
“Quentin kind of has the map on how to excel in college and make it to the next level. Everything he did I tried to imitate and believe in,” said Aelx.
Alex said it’s the support of friends and family that has helped him grow into the player he is and hopes to become.
