List of Letterkenny characters

Letterkenny is a Canadian comedy television series created by Jared Keeso and developed by Keeso and Jacob Tierney. The first season of the series premiered on CraveTV on February 7, 2016.[1] Throughout its run, the series has featured a variety of actors in both long-term lead roles and inconsistent supporting roles. Nineteen cast members have appeared in each season.

The pilot begins with the lyrics, “Letterkenny is made up of hicks, skids, hockey players, and Christians. Those are their problems.” While the latter group was phased out early on, the show’s structure revolves around the other three groups of characters.

Cast [edit]

Main Actor[edit]

Recurring cast[ edit ]

The Hiccups[edit]

Wayne[edit]

Wayne[a] (Jared Keeso) is the leader of the “Hiccups” who are considered “the toughest guy in Letterkenny”. Wayne is protective of his sister and his best friends Daryl and Squirrelly Dan. As a “good old boy,” he has a strict code of ethics and conduct, but he often gets into fights to protect the community, his friends, and his farm. Even his fight is strictly ethical: he keeps the fights at the end of the alley and he never fights dirty.

Wayne runs the small farm he and his sister live on, along with a grocery stand on the property. He takes his work “Chorin'” very seriously, sometimes too seriously for his friends’ concern. Wayne loves dogs and is not a fan of children.

Wayne’s love life is a big draw on the show as Season 1 sees him getting over his breakup with his high school sweetheart, Angie, who convinced him to give up fighting. He has an occasional relationship with Tanis beginning in Season 2 and eventually forms a long-term relationship with Gail’s cousin Rosie after arranging their dogs to be mated. At the Great Day for Thunder Bay party celebrating a visit from the Bay brothers, Wayne declines an invitation from Tanis to meet at the barn and instead drives to Rosie’s. However, she informs him that she plans to move to Vancouver to work rescuing pit bulls and the couple amicably separate. Although Wayne and Tanis try to maintain a romantic relationship, they find that they are not a good match. Season 5 ends with Wayne being introduced to a Québécois woman named Marie-Fred, who is similarly unlucky in love. Wayne proposes to Marie-Fred at the end of Season 6, but admits that she is cheating on him in Season 7, ending the relationship for good. In season 8, Wayne and Rosie rekindle their relationship and they see each other constantly throughout seasons 9 and 10.

Wayne is almost always seen in a tucked-in flannel shirt, jeans and boots, always unbelted. During the winter months, he occasionally wears a turtleneck, a clothing choice his companions find questionable. He is usually seen with his arms crossed and his eyes narrowed, even when relaxing.

Daryl[ edit ]

Daryl (Nathan Dales), often referred to as Dary, is a dairy farmer who has been best friends with Wayne since they were children. He is relatively taciturn, speaks monotonously, and mispronounces words like “basket.” Dary is in his barn clothes almost constantly and has trouble communicating with women, causing most romantic prospects to fizzle out. He is often the butt of jokes from his friends. Nevertheless, he proves to be quick-witted and intellectually curious, with a large vocabulary he can throw verbal opponents.

Katy[edit]

Katy[a] (Michelle Mylett) is Wayne’s sister. She is confident and respected in Letterkenny, although in early episodes she expresses her disdain for Dan and Daryl in particular. She likes to wear revealing clothes and explains that cover-ups are “not [her] forte”. Katy is bisexual and has had many partners throughout the series, including Reilly and Jonesy, and has shown interest in Bonnie McMurray and Mrs. McMurray.

In Season 8, Katy falls in love with Dierks, a handsome but enigmatic American. He accepts her suggestion to remain exclusive, but is caught cheating in the season finale. In season 9, heartbroken Katy decides to go to “scorched earth” and date as many people as possible before concluding that no one in Letterkenny is dateable.

Squirrel Dan[edit]

“Squirrelly” Dan (K. Trevor Wilson) is the backwoods storyteller with a tendency to append “-s” as his trademark to singular words, e.g. “I appreciate that about you, Ms. Katys.” Despite this vocal quirk, Dan is very intelligent, and at one point explains that “sushi” and “sashimi” are irregular plurals when others incorrectly pluralize them. In addition, he is very modern and outgoing, taking a women’s studies course at a local community college and being open to anal masturbation.

McMurray[ edit ]

McMurray (Dan Petronijevic) is another member of the agricultural community in Letterkenny and President of the Agricultural Hall. McMurray is of Scottish and Serbian descent, and he’s a stereotypical “man man” full of big words and sexual machismo, although he likes to be forward-thinking. He can be called upon for any fight the hillbillies get into that Wayne and his friends can’t personally solve, but while Wayne gets along reasonably well with him, most Letterkenny residents regard him with contempt. McMurray generally speaks with his jaw clenched, so many of his words sound jumbled or slurred.

Mrs. McMurray[edit]

Mrs. McMurray (Melanie Scrofano) is McMurray’s wife and his secretary at the Agricultural Hall. She is bisexual and a swinger with her husband, and often drinks gin and tonic.

Gail[edit]

Gail (Lisa Codrington) is the owner of MoDean’s (and later MoDean’s II and MoD3ans). Hypersexual and very attracted to Wayne, she regularly suggests his slight discomfort to him. She is prone to occasional outbursts of swearing. She is Rosie and Bradley’s cousin.

Other [edit]

Bonnie McMurray (Kamilla Kowal) is McMurray’s sister who has a crush on Wayne. He thinks she’s too young for him, but practically everyone else in town is in love with her and often choruses her name when she enters a room. She is initially employed at the Dollar Store before working as a bartender at MoDean’s. She is one of the few characters to have a first and last name.

Jim Dickins (Alex McCooeye) is an agricultural auctioneer and a member of the board of directors of the Agricultural Hall. He tends to fall into fast-talking auctioneer talk in daily conversations and even during sex. For reasons unknown, his name is mispronounced as “Jimmy Dickskin” by almost everyone in town. He is one of only two major recurring characters with a first and last name.

Alexander (Jeff McEnery) is a “slow learner” who is thrown into a garbage heap by Angie’s new boyfriend in the pilot episode behind MoDeans, spurring Wayne to renounce his vow to stop fighting. He is Joint Boy’s cousin. Later in the series, he is employed as a janitor at MoDean’s 3, where he laments the disgusting bathrooms.

The jocks[edit]

Reilly and Jonesy[ edit ]

Reilly (Dylan Playfair) and Jones, commonly known as “Jonesy” (Andrew Herr), are ice hockey players and best friends. They are inseparable and do almost everything together, including sexual “takedowns”. At the start of the series, both are dating Katy, and when she decides she wants a monogamous relationship with Reilly, he ends up breaking her off rather than breaking up with Jonesy.

Early in the series, they are accused of being posers who enjoy the hockey lifestyle but don’t take the game seriously. Hard work makes them the top scorers on their team, although it’s still not enough to keep the team from dropping out. The following season, they become assistant coaches to the successful but spirited Letterkenny Shamrockettes, leading them to the championship for the third straight year. They later become the top scorers for the Kerry County Eagles and eventually represent Ontario at the National Senior Hockey Championships. They are approached as spokespersons for BroDude Energy, but fail to convince the company that they are marketable.

trainer [edit]

Coach (Mark Forward) is the coach of the unnamed Letterkenny hockey team with problems dealing with anger. He rises through the local teams along with Reilly and Jonesy, often to their dismay. He is a widower and his late wife’s name was Barbara. He often romanticizes their life together in an explicit and uncomfortably sexual way. He tends to kick a trash can when he’s upset, even taking one with him when he’s not in the dressing room. In Season 9, he joins a “Beer League” amateur hockey team along with Reilly and Jonesy.

Common boy[ edit ]

Joint Boy (Joël Roger Gagné) is a gym rat who later becomes an ally of both the hockey players and the hiccups. At first he challenges Wayne’s title as the toughest guy in Letterkenny, but they quickly become friends and Wayne often calls on him for backup when preparing for a fight. He is later recruited by Reilly and Jonesy as an enforcer for the Letterkenny Irish. His nickname “Joint Boy” comes from how often he smokes joints.

Tyson[ edit ]

Tyson (Jason Bertin) is another gym rat who later becomes an ally of both the hockey players and the hiccups. He too challenges Wayne’s title for toughest guy in Letterkenny but fights dirty. After Wayne defeats him twice, they become friends. He is later recruited with Joint Boy as an enforcer for the Letterkenny Irish.

Shoresy[edit]

Shore (Jared Keeso), commonly known as Shoresy, is a non-Flemish hockey player with a high-pitched voice. Shoresy frequently insults Reilly and Jonesy, often alluding to his alleged sexual involvement with their mothers. He has played for the Letterkenny Shamrocks and the Irish and has been a linesman for Shamrockette games. Shoresy proves to be an extremely talented hockey player who is often recruited by Coach when the team is in trouble. Shoresy’s face was never seen clearly; He is often seen in the shower with his back turned, in a toilet stall with the door closed, or with a tinted face shield on his helmet. He leaves Letterkenny at the end of Season 10 for Sudbury to play for the hockey team there.

Barts, Yorkie, Sholtzy, Fisky and Boomtown [ edit ]

Barts (Alex Spencer), Yorkie (Stephen Huszar), Sholtzy (Andrew Hinkson), Fisky (Jordan Johnson-Hinds) and Boomtown (Boomer Phillips) are five hockey players for the Letterkenny senior Ireland team. They always speak in sequence, calling the next person by name and becoming restless if this order is not followed. Barts often completes sentences with “you little bitch”, interrupted by Sholtzy adding “pussy”. They are initially antagonistic to Reilly and Jonesy, but later the five grow to respect them after they start taking the game more seriously. At first they are all happily married, but their wives leave them after they sleep with Angie. It is revealed in Season 7 that they all have varying degrees of Native American heritage playing for the Kerry County Eagles.

Betty-Anne and Mary-Anne[ edit ]

Betty-Anne (Kelly McCormack) and Mary-Anne (Jess Salgueiro) are two hockey players for the Letterkenny Shamrockettes. They are both very combative and initially reject Reilly and Jonesy’s attempts at coaching. They are at odds over their shared romantic interest in Shoresy, but they later seem to settle into a polyamorous relationship with him.

Ron and Dax[edit]

Ron (James Daly) and Dax (Gregory Waters) are gym rats who serve as the gay counterparts of Jonesy and Reilly. At first they call the two frequently,[2] but later they become friends and go by the nicknames “Ronsy” and “Daxy”. They also befriend other Letterkenny residents, as in season five they marry in a ceremony attended by members of all of Letterkenny’s social groups. They later explain to Reilly and Jonesy that it was an open marriage of convenience for tax purposes.[4]

dierks [edit]

Dierks Rensburg-van-Koeverdan (Tyler Hynes) is an American friend of Jake’s who immediately gets under Wayne’s skin due to his slimy and sexist nature. Katy eventually falls in love with him and despite Wayne’s misgivings, he doesn’t try to intervene. Dierks accepts Katy’s proposal to make their relationship exclusive, but is caught cheating by Wayne’s old flame Marie-Fred and later by Katy herself, prompting Wayne, Dary, Dan, McMurray, Stewart, Roald, Reilly, and Jonesy to agree to him beat up He is revealed in the season 9 finale to be the new sponsored athlete for Bro-Dude Energy Drink, as well as Anik’s new boyfriend.

Other [edit]

Jean-Jacques François Jacques-Jean (Max Bouffard), also known as “JJ Frankie JJ”, a former NHL player who is the Trois Riviers ice hockey team’s top scorer. He also knows several members of Jean-Claude’s circle of friends who help him fight Shoresy.

Hudson and James Bay (Mark and Craig McMorris), former Letterkenny Shamrocks and brothers who now play professional ice hockey in Europe. They’re the pride of the town, to the point that the hillbillies, skids, hockey players, and locals all believe their group should be the ones throwing them a welcome party.

The Skids[edit]

Steward[edit]

Stewart (Tyler Johnston) is the dramatic leader of the Skids with a passion for retro video games and electronic music. He is tech-savvy, has proven programming skills, and is considered an expert in methamphetamine production. He regularly dances in public with the other Skids and has performed as a disc jockey on several occasions. He is in love with Katy, much to the dismay of the other Skids. They date briefly, but after he tries to treat Katy with silence, she breaks it off. He has a large penis that has been likened to a tube of tennis balls or a big boy can of Red Bull, which Katy realizes with dismay after breaking up with him without having sex.

Devon[ edit ]

Devon (Alexander De Jordy) is Stewart’s right hand in the skids. When Stewart forms a romantic relationship with Katy, Devon briefly takes the lead of the skids, but Stewart regains the position. Devon disappears without explanation prior to Season 3.

Roald[ edit ]

Roald (Evan Stern) is a deeply insecure and openly gay member of the Skids. After Devon’s departure, Roald takes his place as Stewart’s best friend and second-in-command. He is somewhat infatuated with Stewart and has been known to pronounce his name in a monosyllabic squeak.

Gae [ edit ]

Gae (Sarah Gadon) is a later member of the Skids and joins shortly after Devon’s departure. She inspires the Skids to perform vandalism in disguise as clowns inspired by the 2016 clown sightings. She tries to return to her home in town, which she succeeds in by the end of Season 3. With her return in Season 5, she wants to help Stewart sober up, and in Season 6 their relationship turns romantic.

Other [edit]

Darien (Danny VanZandwyck) and Connor (Patrick McNeil) are two silent members of the Skids who are usually around when they hang out.

The Christians[edit]

Glen [edit]

Glen (Jacob Tierney) is a flamboyant pastor. Although he had a girlfriend (whom he didn’t have sex with) in early episodes, the show hints that he’s gay and he can hardly hide his infatuation with Wayne. Since he doesn’t make a living as a preacher, he often takes on other odd jobs, including working in restaurants, ice cream parlors, and as a bartender at MoDean’s. His accent suggests he is from the southern United States.

Other [edit]

Noah Dyck (Jonathan Torrens) is a member of the local Mennonite community who is not afraid to ask members of the “English” world for help. He is happily unaware of the fact that his last name sounds like “cock”, which often leads to ambiguity. His wife, Anita Dyck (Sarah Wayne Callies), is similar to her husband, but a little more distant. Their daughters Charity (Cora Eckert) and Chastity (Olivia Colilli) engage in a sexual relationship with Reilly and Jonesy during Rumspringa, but eventually return to the Mennonite world. Noah’s younger sister Lovina Dyck (Brooke Bruce) was the object of Squirrelly Dan’s affections as a child and he still longs for her.

The natives[edit]

Tanis[edit]

Tanis (Kaniehtiio Horn) is the head of the native reservation’s cigarette business. She admits it’s not a “politically correct” market, but justifies it as the proceeds go to improve the lives of people on the Rez.

Though she began as an antagonist to the Hiccups, Skids, and hockey players, she is occasionally an ally of all three groups. She and Wayne have an on-off relationship that resulted in her pregnancy before having an abortion.

In Season 7, Tanis aspires to a management role for the Kerry County Eagles, hoping it will have a good impact on their young relatives. In Season 9, she founds an energy drink company called NDN NRG (pronounced “Indian Energy”), which is a blatant rip-off from BroDude.

Tanis also drives the Zamboni at the hockey rink.

Along with their unnamed junior hockey counterpart, they are known for instilling fear in other teams into playing them, in what has been dubbed the “native flu.” During Season 7, Barts, Yorkie, Fisky, Sholtzy, and Boomtown join the team as they each have varying degrees of Native American heritage. Shoresy, Jonesy and Reilly join in Season 8 and lead the team to a national championship. Her championship status is revoked when her sponsor discovers that Shoresy combined her DNA samples in one beaker instead of sending three separate samples.

Tanis makes a bet with him that her reformed Letterkenny Irish can beat the Eagles and promises him oral sex if he wins.

Québécois (Les Hiques) [ edit ]

Anika[ edit ]

Anik (Kim Cloutier) is a member of the Québécois faction of Hicks (French: Ploucs) who meets the Letterkenny group while ice fishing. Although she and Daryl have a connection, she becomes engaged to another man, Jean-Claude. She leaves Jean-Claude at her buck-and-do party and begins a relationship with Daryl. Daryl becomes jealous of her racy Instagram posts, prompting her to break up with him. Jonesy and Reilly later recruit her to model with them for BroDude Energy, but the company rep decides to sign Anik without them both. She later begins a relationship with Katy’s ex, Dierks.

Marie-Frédérique (Magalie Lépine-Blondeau), usually referred to as “Marie-Fred”, is a Québécoise woman with whom Wayne begins a romantic relationship in season 6. She has a similar personality to Wayne. They are engaged in Season 7 until Wayne catches her cheating on him with a French guy. Despite this, Marie-Fred helps Wayne discover Dierks’ true nature in season 8. In Season 10, Wayne returns the favor by helping Marie-Fred buy a car from an English dealer, proving their relationship has turned amicable.
