CaptainSparklez famously dropped out of college to post full-time gaming videos on YouTube. The move wasn’t bad. Although it may have shocked his parents at first, the YouTuber’s annual earnings exceed $4.8 million. With that kind of income, it’s no wonder he was able to buy a $4.5 million home in the Hollywood Hills. Not bad for a college dropout who plays video games all day.

YouTube earnings are not published openly. The way we calculated CaptainSparklez’s earnings was by looking at his total YouTube views of 1.99 billion. Industry estimates put YouTube revenue at around $7.60 per 1,000 views for ad revenue. That gave us $15 million in total YouTube earnings for CaptainSparklez. Since we don’t know exactly when those 1.99 billion views happened, we’re splitting the YouTube star’s earnings evenly by year. That gives us pretty straight forward growth for CaptainSparklez’s net worth. This linear growth is undoubtedly artificial. The star’s real-world net worth growth almost certainly followed a more jagged path.

Determining CaptainSparklez’s net worth

CaptainSparklez a.k.a Jordan Maron is a private citizen and is not required to disclose his net worth. However, industry experts estimate that 1,000 YouTube views result in approximately $7.60 in revenue. We know that CaptainSparklez has 1.99 billion YouTube views. That equates to $15 million.

We also know that CaptainSparklez sells t-shirts, hats, hoodies, action figures, and other merchandise. Of course, there are costs associated with the manufacture and distribution of these items, so Jordan Maron doesn’t receive all of the money from the sale. A conservative estimate, however, is that CaptainSparklez earns $7 in merch for every 1,000 views of his YouTube videos.

CaptainSparklez net worth calculations

CaptainSparklez YouTube Views 1,993,501,650 $ Per 1,000 YouTube Views $7.60 CaptainSparklez YouTube Earnings $15,150,612.54 CaptainSparklez Merchandise Earnings $13,954,511.55 Total CaptainSparklez Earnings $29,105,124.09 Taxes $15,396,610.64 Expenses $900,000 Investment Income $939,750 CaptainSparklez Net Worth $13,748,263.27

While we know CaptainSparklez’s approximate YouTube earnings and can make a good estimate of his Merchandise earnings, it still doesn’t tell us anything about his net worth. The star made $29 million, but that doesn’t mean he kept that much. CaptainSparklez, like everyone else, has to pay for living expenses and other expenses. He also has taxes like everyone else. To determine its actual net worth, we’ve considered these factors below.

CaptainSparklez Taxes, Expenses, Investments

We started with $15 million in YouTube revenue and $14 million in merchandising revenue for CaptainSparklez. Then we figured out the YouTuber’s taxes.

CaptainSparklez is in a 39.6% federal tax bracket. He also pays the highest state tax rate in California at 13.3%. This gives the player a tax rate of 52.9%. That means he keeps less than half of every dollar he makes. Applying that amount to his lifetime earnings gives a total tax bill of $15.4 million. We also calculated living expenses of $150,000 per year.

Year Total CaptainSparklez Earnings Taxes Expenses Investment Income CaptainSparklez Net Worth 2010 $4,850,854.02 $2,566,101.77 $150,000 $0 $2,134,752.24 2011 $4,850,854.02 $2,566,101.77 $150,000 $60,328.10 $4,329,832.58 2012 $4,850,854.02 $2,566,101.77 $150,000 $122,361.07 $6,586,945.89 2013 $4,850,854.02 $2,566,101.77 $150,000 $186,147.09 $8,907,845.22 2014 $4,850,854.02 $2,566,101.77 $150,000 $251,735.71 $11,294,333.17 2015 $4,850,854.02 $2,566,101.77 $150,000 $319,177.86 $13,748,263.27 Totals $29,105,124.09 $15,396,610.64 $900,000 $939,750 $13,748,263.27

We have also included capital gains in our CaptainSparklez net worth amount. The YouTuber has likely earned at least 6% interest on his wealth since 2010. Even after taxes, that adds up to a handy $900,000.

What about CaptainSparklez’s house and cars?

CaptainSparklez owns a $4.5 million home in the Hollywood Hills. He also loves classic cars and muscle cars and owns at least three expensive cars. Do these expenses count towards his net worth? Not really. He could sell this $4.5 million home today and probably get at least what he paid for it. Buying classic cars is more of an investment than an expense. They will likely either increase CaptainSparklez’s net worth or not affect it at all.

Can I make as much as CaptainSparklez?

One of the main reasons people care about CaptainSparklez’s fortune is because it’s a new twist on the American Dream. A rags to riches story about someone doing something as simple as dropping out of college and playing video games and raking in millions. How likely is the average Joe or Jane to replicate CaptainSparklez’s success? The answer is, “Not very much.”

To make even $35,000 a year from YouTube revenue, a creator would need to get 4.6 million YouTube views a year. That’s a lot of YouTube views. Assuming a player created a video every week and only took a two-week vacation, they would need to get 92,000 views per video. Even if they made a video every day, they would still need to get at least 18,400 views for each and every video. That’s just to make $35,000 a year pre-tax.

To make as much money as CaptainSparklez, a YouTuber would have to make a video every single day of the week all year long and get 1.4 million views on each video each time.

Jordan Maron

American YouTuber

Jordan Maron (born February 10, 1992), also known by his online alias CaptainSparklez, is an American YouTuber, Twitch streamer, gamer, and electronic musician. Maron is primarily known for playing the video game Minecraft, which is featured on his main channel CaptainSparklez and channel CaptainSparklez 2. His main channel is currently the 755th most subscribed channel on YouTube with over 11.2 million subscribers (as of August 2021). [3]

Maron’s first channel, ProsDONTtalkSHIT, was created in February 2010 and featured gameplay from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 video game.[4] Maron later created his main channel, CaptainSparklez, in July 2010 and uploaded both Minecraft and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay before focusing primarily on Minecraft.

Maron has produced several Minecraft-themed songs and music videos, most notably “Revenge,” a parody of Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” featuring vocals by himself and TryHardNinja. Other notable Minecraft music videos include his Fallen Kingdom tetralogy and “TNT”. On his other channels, Maron also uploads reaction videos and gameplay of various other games including Fortnite and Trials Fusion.

Maron is an electronic music enthusiast who has used tracks from the Monstercat label in gameplay videos. He has experimented with music production himself. On March 27, 2016, he founded Maron Music, a music promotion channel where he would share other artists’ music as well as his own original music. “Moonbeam” was the first of his tracks to be uploaded to the channel.[5]

In early 2017, Maron uploaded videos of his reactions and comments to various communities on Reddit. This resulted in a temporary drop in Minecraft-related content. Maron eventually decided they weren’t what his regular audience wanted to see.[6] He went on to create the Jordan Reacts channel, where he continued to upload Reddit reaction videos, and refocused on creating Minecraft videos for his main channel.

In January 2020, Maron announced its official apparel brand, Quality Content Athletics.[7] Throughout 2020, it has sold various workout and lifestyle apparel. In July 2021, he renamed QC Athletics to Quality Content.[8]

Early life[edit]

Maron was born in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Santa Barbara with his mother when he was four years old. He attended Santa Barbara High School from the ninth grade. Maron then studied chemical engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Due to his interest in video games, he then decided to switch his major to computer science midway through his freshman year. He dropped out after the first quarter of his sophomore year. In December 2011, he made YouTube his full-time job.[1]

Career [edit]

Maron owns eleven YouTube channels in total. Four of its channels are currently active. On February 9, 2010 he created his first channel titled ProsDONTtalkSHIT (PDTS) where he mainly uploaded gameplay videos of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.[4] As PDTS grew in popularity, Maron decided he wanted a less vulgar name. He created a new channel called CaptainSparklez on July 20, 2010 and left PDTS inactive.[9] Almost two years later, in April 2012, CaptainSparklez’s channel reached 1 million subscribers on YouTube.[10] In September 2013, CaptainSparklez reached 1 billion video views, becoming the fifth solo gaming channel on YouTube to reach the milestone behind PewDiePie, SkyDoesMinecraft, UberHaxorNova, and TobyGames.[11]

On May 15, 2015, he created a channel called CaptainSparklez 2, where he uploaded unedited Twitch live streams and videos, as well as other content that he felt didn’t belong on his main channel. On March 27, 2016, he founded Maron Music, a music promotion channel where he would share the music of other artists as well as his own original music.[12] On February 9, 2017, Maron created his own channel for personal vlogs. Maron later founded Fortnite Cinema, a channel that featured short films created in the Fortnite Battle Royale game.

In early 2017, Maron began uploading videos to his main channel of his reactions to top Reddit posts. These reaction videos gained popularity, but in the end Maron decided they weren’t what his core audience liked.[6] As a result, on August 11, 2018, Maron created a new channel called Jordan Reacts where he continued to upload Reddit reaction videos and refocused on making Minecraft videos for his main channel. Maron’s next channel is Jordan Games where he uploads gameplay videos that would be irrelevant on his main channel. His most recent channels are Jordan Lifts, which he uses to lift weights at his home gym, and SparkleShorts, which features small footage from various videos from CaptainSparklez’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

Maron was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016.[13] In June 2016, he appeared in the sixth episode of Minecraft: Story Mode.[14][15]

XREAL[ edit ]

Maron co-founded a mobile games company called XREAL with Howard Marks, co-founder and former CEO of Activision and co-founder of Acclaim Games and StartEngine. XREAL released its game Fortress Fury in May 2015, which garnered over 1.5 million downloads within the first month of its release.[16] Fortress Fury was originally called Fortress Fallout; However, ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, known for the Fallout series, sent a cease-and-desist letter requesting XREAL to “immediately and expressly cease promoting Fortress Fallout and cease any current or proposed use of any mark containing the.” Term Fallout.”[17][18] The letter was sent to prevent competition in the mobile game market for their game Fallout Shelter. Maron and XREAL’s legal team were not informed of this[19] because Bethesda was keeping Shelter secret at the time and its did not reveal its existence until its release on June 14, 2015.

Discography[ edit ]

On February 26, 2011, he released his first Minecraft music video, “TNT,” a parody of Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” featuring vocals by singer TryHardNinja. In late 2015, at the request of Maron’s network, the video was made private and replaced with a new video featuring original music. In May 2018, the original video was re-released.[20] The video is currently the fourth most viewed video on Maron’s channel with over 106 million views, surpassing the number of views of the original song.[A]

On August 19, 2011, he released his second Minecraft music video entitled “Revenge”, which is a parody of Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love”.[21] The video has over 250 million views[A] making it the most viewed video on Maron’s channel as well as the most viewed Minecraft-related video on YouTube. At the end of 2015, it was privatized along with “TNT” and replaced with a new video with original music. In May 2018, along with “TNT”, the original video and audio were restored.[20]

In July 2019, following the 10th anniversary of Minecraft, the song received renewed attention as an internet meme.[22] This has led to “Revenge” reaching number one on Genius’ Top Songs list.[23] Acknowledging the song’s popularity in November 2019, Maron posted a parody of Genius’ lyrical video about “Revenge”.

Maron created a parody video called “Minecraft Style” based on South Korean entertainer PSY’s “Gangnam Style” that used animated Minecraft models. According to MSN, it had more than a million views within a few days.[26] The video has been referenced in technology and gaming articles published by NBC,[27] The Daily Telegraph,[28] Mashable[29] and the Huffington Post[25]. The original video was removed from YouTube due to copyright issues. Since re-uploading, the video has garnered over 19 million views.[A]

Fallen Kingdom series[edit]

Maron is also known for his Fallen Kingdom series of four Minecraft music videos. They show a storyline of a king and his son of a fictional kingdom in the Minecraft universe. The first part of the series, Fallen Kingdom, was released on April 1, 2012.[30] The video’s music is a parody of the Coldplay song “Viva la Vida”, with the lyrics altered to fit elements of Minecraft and to fit into the video’s narrative, which shows a king walking through a ruined city wanders who he once ruled with flashbacks that reveal what happened to the city. The video is currently the second most viewed video on Maron’s channel with over 146 million views.

The second video in the series, Take Back the Night, was released on August 31, 2013.[31] The video is the third most viewed video on Maron’s channel after “Fallen Kindom” with over 143 million views[A]. The video features the title track, an original song by TryHardNinja, and tells the story of what happened to the king’s son from Fallen Kingdom. It features a prince, the king’s son in “Fallen Kingdom”, who is taken in and raised by villagers due to his father’s absence and later pursues and defeats the character Herobrine after an attack on the village.
