Obituary for Cody R. Martin

obituary

Cody Ray Martin, 31, of Bismarck, ND, died Sunday June 13, 2021 in Jamestown as a result of injuries sustained in a motocross accident. He will be remembered forever for his competitive spirit, tender heart and infectious smile. He treasured his friendships. He knew the meaning of the journey, not just the destination. He loved his road trips and trips for family, racing and fun.

Cody was born on November 2, 1989 in Fargo, ND to Brent and DeAnna Martin. They lived in Fargo until September 1996 when they moved to Casselton. Cody graduated from Central Cass High School in 2009. After high school, he moved to Bismarck to attend Bismarck State College. He loved Bismarck and made it his home.

As a young boy, Cody lived on his bike. In the summer of 1997 he was introduced to BMX racing. He quickly went from novice to expert in just one season. He’s made so many great friends traveling from track to track and amassed a collection of trophies that quickly outgrew his room. He also won several state championships along the way, including the SD State Championship. He always chuckled about how he “stole” her state title. Cody naturally switched to motocross and began racing at the track in Glyndon, MN. He loved the camaraderie, competition and thrill of racing.

Besides racing, Cody also enjoyed hunting pheasants and deer with friends, family and Fletcher, his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer.

After moving to Bismarck, Cody met Shane Farland. Cody began working for Shane as a clerk, but their relationship quickly grew into a lasting friendship. It was Shane who tutored and mentored Cody in the auto detailing industry.

In 2014 he met Chelsey Benson, the love of his life. They spent their time enjoying each other’s hobbies. Chelsey would compete in his races and Cody would compete in her barrel races. They treasured the time they spent together. Whether it’s around the house, in the store, or at the track/rodeo, her dog OG was always by her side. Cody and Chelsey also enjoyed going to Evangelical Church together on Sundays. There his relationship with the Lord grew.

The same year he met Chelsey, he started his own retail business, CM Shine. Cody’s meticulous nature, attention to detail, and work ethic helped him grow his business. His services were in high demand and he did everything from motorcycles to jet planes. His work was even featured at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Cody took great pride in his work. He was known in the industry for his perfection.

He is survived by soulmate Chelsey Benson, parents Brent and DeAnna, brother Joss (Anna Brunner), sister Breena (Mike) Svetlic, niece Callie Svetlic, and grandparents Bob Dick, Carolyn, and Herman Funk.

Cody was preceded in death by his grandparents Ray and Joan Martin.
