Wendy Moten

Update December 28, 2021: The Voice runner-up Wendy Moten underwent elbow surgery on December 17 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Her second place allowed her to take care of it and her homecoming immediately after The Voice’s finale.

“I have one of Vanderbilt’s top surgeons preparing to work on my arm,” she said in an Instagram post on the way to the hospital where Dr. Douglas Weikert carried out the repairs. She then added: “December, January, February, everything is shutting down. I’m going to recover…Once I’m through with this surgery and my recovery is over…then I’m going to put some things together and get some shows going. Record some more music.”

A week later, and looking great, she posted on Instagram: “Counting down the days until I fully recover from my elbow surgery so I can get back to work recording my new music and performing live!! ! I will definitely be staying Y’all have posted and I hope @blakeshelton has something in the works too!!! Fingers crossed!!!”

Update December 13, 2021: It turns out Wendy Moten’s accident on stage at The Voice in November was a lot worse than it initially appeared. Though she said she fractured her right elbow and dislocated it twice, as well as broken her left hand, following the final night of Monday’s performances, the Nashville resident announced she was undergoing elbow surgery.

“My elbow’s jacked up,” she told Parade.com. “It’s shattered. I have to have metal plates and bolts put in, so I was amazed that knowing this I could still go on, but I was able to go on.”

Wendy is one of the frontrunners in the competition with a shot at the title and a record deal, so she took that into account when scheduling the surgery.

“I spoke to the doctor at Vanderbilt and they have everything,” she said. “They have set me two appointments if I win an operation and if I don’t win I have another date for that operation. I will have this operation in a few days or next week. ”

Wendy was originally scheduled to have surgery in Burbank, but transferred to Nashville for follow-up care should anything go wrong. “I will be at home. My family is closer.”

Update December 12, 2021: Now that she’s reached the finals, Wendy Moten says the fact that she was able to come back after a fall and broken arm and ended up in two casts is already a win.

“If I can get back on stage with broken arms, whatever happens is icing on the cake for me and I’m grateful to have been around for this long,” she told Parade.com.

As for the finale, she didn’t reveal what she would be singing, but did describe her genre, saying, “I love so many different styles and classics that I just want people to hear classic, nostalgic songs that I’m from the old days.” School. I love modern music, but I just love the melody and the stories from another time. I want to hold up this banner and remember these songs but make them my own. I feel like I was able to interpret it and I’m telling the story my way, but make it seem like you’ve heard it before.”

Update November 29, 2021: Although Wendy Moten told everyone she was fine after her fall on elimination show The Voice last Tuesday, it turns out nothing could have been further from the truth. Wendy arrived tonight’s performance with casts on her right arm because of a broken elbow and her left arm because of a broken hand at the wrist. She had been taken to hospital after last week’s elimination show and X-rays showed the damage that was the result of her fall on stage after performing with her team.

Still, Wendy did an excellent rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” and you never knew she was hurt.

“I’ve never seen a better example of strength, endurance and fearlessness on this stage,” said her coach, Blake Shelton. “She’s here to win this thing.”

Speaking to Parade.com after her performance on Monday night, Wendy told us: “I took a bad fall and broke my right elbow and it dislocated twice. My left hand is broken and a small piece is broken so my sister Mona is out here helping me. She really got me through. She flew out on Thanksgiving. It took her away from the family and she was a real soldier. I just couldn’t go on without her. But the weird thing is, I don’t know why I have this energy that I could just keep going. I’ll just go day by day but I still feel like I’m still in the game.

Both of Wendy’s casts were adorned with beads rather than rhinestones by the costume department for her performance, but she says one of her casts is so heavy that she cannot lift it unaided.

“I have to see the doctor this week and they want the swelling to go down and they’re going to figure out which is which,” she continued. “But I’m willing to take it on and be smart about it and take it day by day.”

Originally posted November 23, 2021: The thrill of live television is that anything can go wrong at any time, and that’s exactly what happened to Wendy Moten on Tuesday night’s elimination episode of The Voice.

Wendy, who had already received the news that she had made the Top 10, performed the Motown classic “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” alongside her trainer Blake Shelton and teammates Paris Winningham and Lana Scott.

At the end of the performance, Wendy appeared to trip over something on stage (perhaps a floorstanding speaker) and fell. After her fall, she was helped immediately and walked off the stage appearing fine.

Presenter Carson Daly told viewers: “We’re clearing the stage. We have some people coming to help now. An unfortunate event for Wendy Moten. She goes away. We hope she’s doing well…”

The show went on to reveal the evening’s two bottom performers – Jim and Sasha Allen and Gymani – but before they could perform their instant save of the evening, Wendy returned. (By the way – Jim and Sasha were saved).

Carson said of Wendy’s fall, “Nothing like this has ever happened to us.”

And Wendy told Carson and viewers at home: “I’m fine, I’m a little hurt but you know what? I’m still ready to go!”

And she should, because Blake has predicted she’ll make it to the finals!

All my songs were so serious and I actually smiled, moved and danced. I had something new to offer and I’m glad they saw that side of me.”

Now that she’s in the top 10, Wendy will be spending Thanksgiving at the hotel hosting The Voice contestants, and she plans to use the vacation to get some rest!

“I’m hoping to catch up on some sleep and free time,” Wendy said. “This pace is so fast. I’ve been in the music business for 35 years and I’ve never been at such a pace. I thought, ‘Oh my god. I don’t think I can handle it.” Not at this rate, so I’m planning on getting some sleep. That is my goal and to be grateful for this experience and grateful that I am here.”

Next, here’s what you’ll learn about The Voice season 21

The Voice’s Wendy Moten Reveals Injuries After Fall On Live TV

Spoilers ahead for the November 29 episode of The Voice.

Wendy Moten scared viewers on The Voice last week when she tripped over a loudspeaker and fell and had to be helped off stage after performing live with Blake Shelton’s team. And while she emerged shortly after with host Carson Daly to report that she was “a little hurt,” but okay, she’s now revealed the extent of her injuries, and it’s a little bit more significant than we originally thought.

The accident happened during the Top 12 Eliminations show on November 23. After a performance of “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch” by Team Blake Shelton, Wendy Moten fell while the stage was being cleared so Carson Daly could announce more results. Six days later, during The Voice’s top 10 performance show on November 29, Moten provided an update on her condition, revealing that she was hospitalized later that night after the show.

My right elbow is broken. My left hand broke at the wrist here, so I fell pretty hard.

These are no small injuries and show how strong Wendy Moten is. Because although she had help, she was able to walk off the stage after the fall, and she appeared in good spirits when speaking to Carson Daly shortly after. Additionally, Moten was ready for the Top 10 performances this week, showing Blake Shelton casts on both arms via Zoom while they held a virtual rehearsal.

Due to rehearsals after last week’s elimination show while Wendy Moten was in the hospital, she missed her personal mentoring session with trainer Blake Shelton. This week’s theme was Challenge Week, in which the remaining contestants were assigned songs outside of their typical genres. Moten laughed that he didn’t need any more challenges after the fall.

I know it’s Challenge Week, but dear God!

Wendy Moten performed “Jolene,” a traditional country song by Dolly Parton, with her costume covering the casts on her arms. But if the singer felt challenged by the song, it definitely didn’t show. Check out Moten’s live performance less than a week after that terrifying fall:

After her performance, the coaches commended Moten not only for her restraint and respectful performance, but also for fighting such odds to even get on stage after suffering her injuries. Kelly Clarkson said she has been in touch with Moten this week and seen the struggles she was having.

Kudos to you for standing on this stage right now and getting this done because you know what you have and it’s worth it. And also coming out of here like nothing happened to you and you’re fine, and telling such a story in such a sad way. It was so beautifully sad, it’s like my favorite music. So well done. Well done.

Blake Shelton, who caught Wendy Moten in the blind auditions after she turned all four coaching chairs, echoed Kelly Clarkson’s feelings (opens in new tab) about how strong his artiste is. He said Moten is focused on making The Voice season 21 finale the way it should be.

By the way, America, I’ve never seen a better example of strength, endurance and fearlessness on this stage without losing focus on what she came here to do, which is to win this thing!

Two contestants will be eliminated on Tuesday, November 30, and the top 8 will advance to the semifinals next week on NBC. Be sure to check out our 2021 TV schedule (opens in new tab) to see what else is happening between now and the end of the year.

Wendy Moten returns to The Voice after fracturing her wrist and breaking her elbow from a nasty fall

Wendy Moten returned to The Voice with two arms in a cast after tripping over some stage equipment during last Tuesday’s live results show.

While the 57-year-old contestant initially assured viewers that she only had a “minor bruise” from the nasty fall, the “Come In Out of the Rain” singer actually suffered a broken right elbow and left wrist.

The veteran backing singer, who has worked for Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, spoke to coach Blake Shelton Monday night about the scary ordeal on NBC’s music competition series.

Nothing can stop her: Wendy Moten returned to The Voice with two arms in a cast after tripping over a piece of stage equipment during last Tuesday’s live results show

“So you had the fall on stage. Next thing I know you’re going to tell [voice host] Carson [Daly] you’re fine,” her coach Shelton recalled during one of her rehearsals.

“The next thing I know, we’re going to do rehearsals that night, and you’re in the hospital.”

Ahead of her performance of Dolly Parton’s Jolene, the eight-time Grammy nominee jokingly asked her to “promise” not to break “both” her legs next.

In response, she playfully shot back, “I’m not breaking anything! They have to roll me out in the wheelchair and I sing and they can roll me out again.”

Ouch! While she initially assured viewers she only had “little bruises” from the nasty fall, the 57-year-old contestant actually suffered a broken right elbow and left wrist

The Memphis native’s accident happened after she, her coach, and fellow Team Blake members Paris Winningham and Lana Scott sang Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) together.

Winningham and Scott immediately rushed over to help her, but Shelton, his back turned, did not see her fall.

When Gwen Stefani’s husband saw Moten on the ground, he left to check on her safety and well-being.

‘All OK?’ asked host Carson Daly. “Let’s take a second. Someone just fell over here.’

down! The contestant’s slip occurred when she tripped over stage equipment during the live results show (see above).

Oh no: As her performance of Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) wrapped, the Memphis native fell over one of the speakers unbeknownst to the 45-year-old country star, who had her back turned

Shelton went back onstage to see if Moten was injured while he and a crew member helped the contestant off the stage.

“We hope she’s okay,” Daly said before asking her himself minutes later.

When the show returned from a hiatus, Daly stood by Moten, who said she was “a little hurt” but “fine.”

Supportive: Immediately, her fellow Team Blake members Paris Winningham and Lana Scott rushed to help

Coach: Turning to see Moten lying on the floor, the country star went to check on her while the live audience worried about her safety and well-being

The 48-year-old presenter and radio host went on to say he was so glad she was okay after the scary fall.

Fans were understandably concerned, with many taking to social media to say they hope she “isn’t too sore this morning”.

“Hope you’re doing well, we really need you and your voice,” another commented on her latest Instagram post of the night.

Moten has made the top 10 and will return to the stage next week.
