Emma Sarley Woman Fired Over Brooklyn Dog Park Viral Video
Emma Sarley is a New York woman who was fired by Bevy after she was accused of telling a Black couple to stay in their “hood” at a dog park in Brooklyn in a viral video posted by Frederick Joseph. The video also shows Sarley trying to remove the phone from Joseph’s hand while he was being recorded. Joseph was in McCarren Park with his girlfriend Porsche Landon, when the incident happened in Williamsburg on September 25, 2021.
“At the dog park in Brooklyn with my girlfriend and this white woman threatened to call the police and told us to‘ stay in our hood ’because he mistaken our dog for another dog barking loudly,” Joseph, a New York Times Bestselling author and marketing strategist, tweeted. “So, I started recording and he tried to slap the phone in my hand.”
Sarley, 28, was identified by other social media users after being called “Dog Park Karen” and then losing her job at Bevy, a virtual conference and community event software platform company based in Palo Alto, California, after its CEO find out about viral video. Bevy CEO Derek Anderson tweeted, “@BevyHQ has no tolerance for any form of discriminatory behavior. Yesterday an employee engaged in behavior contrary to our values and was terminated. We are. is very apologetic to everyone involved. I personally hope that some kind of resolution can happen between the two parties despite this and will help if I can. ”
Anderson added on Twitter, “Talked to @FredTJoseph about the horrible experience they had with his girlfriend last night. So sorry to them for what happened. People shouldn’t be treated the way we’ve witnessed. It’s very disturbing.”
Sarley could not be immediately reached for Heavy’s comment. But he released a statement to the New York Post saying, “My reference to ‘back to your hood’ simply refers to another dog park outside of this neighborhood park. I was frustrated and upset, but to be clearly – I didn’t mean racial in my comments whatsoever.I said this because it is an unspecified rule in our local park that when a dog becomes aggressive, the owners immediately remove them to it will be a calm, welcoming environment for everyone.However, I fully understand how to interpret my words and I sincerely wish I had chosen them more carefully.A short and thoughtless moment in my life has now led to nationwide anger and pain. Because of that, I’m sorry. ”

Joseph posted the 27-second video on Twitter on September 25, 2021. The video shows Sarley near the gate of the dog park fence as Joseph records him, saying “stay in our hood? No no No No No. “Sarley then said something to Joseph and raised his middle finger toward his phone, before trying to pick it up and slapping it with his hand. Then Joseph said,” stay in our hood? stay in our hood? Sorry, what? ”
Then Sarley says, “Did you just tell me?” Joseph replied, “You just told us to leave the dog park and stay in our hood.” Joseph then turned to a man and said, “You were just here and watching this whole thing, didn’t he tell us to stay in our hood?” The man replies, “he is,” as the video ends with Sarley and his dog walking away.

The NYPD told the New York Post it was looking into the incident but did not say if a report had been filed. According to the Post, Sarley said in his statement, released by a public relations firm, that he did not call police or threaten to call police or 911 at the time of the incident and denied having had a “tirade.” He apologized in the PR statement and said he accepted responsibility for not handling things differently, the newspaper reported.

After Joseph posted the video on Twitter and learned that Sarley worked as an enterprise account executive at Bevy from his deleted LinkedIn profile, Joseph tweeted to Bevy’s CEO, “Hey @DerekjAndersen I see you trying by @BevyHQ to be better about race, equity, etc. Thought you should see it. I hope Black colleagues and peers don’t have to deal with this kind of racism from Emma. ”The two had a private conversation before Andersen announced that Sarley was no longer working at his company.
Sarley has worked with Bevy since August 2021. Joseph tweeted, “Emma has been terminated. I hope people learn that there are consequences for their behavior, and take the opportunity to be better.

Joseph wrote on Twitter on Sept. 27, “In the past day or so, Porsche and I have received death threats and hate messages in defense of the white woman who launched a racist tirade against us at the dog park “Beyond considering the trauma of the moment itself and now the trauma that followed-we also consider some questions.”
Joseph wrote, “What do people really expect from the consequences of racism? Why do some people hope without any consequences? Why do people argue about whether he can be justified? Racism must be intolerable, wherever it manifests. People keep doing certain tasks because they can do it without side effects. Racism in a dog park can easily turn into racism in the workplace or elsewhere. If he respects us or the Black people as a whole, he won’t just do what he did – he’ll try to apologize. ”

A white woman was fired from her job at a software company after she was accused of telling a black couple to ‘stay in [their] hood’ at a dog park in Brooklyn.
Footage posted on Twitter by author Frederick Joseph from McCarren Park in Williamsburg on Sunday shows the woman after the alleged exchange, but he could not be heard commenting ‘stay with [their] hood.
Joseph can be heard saying ‘stay in our hood’ towards the woman, insinuating that he is repeating what has already been said. The video shows the woman giving her middle finger to the camera before pushing the phone away.
Software company Bevy confirmed someone had been fired because of the incident, but did not name the man.
However, in the second tweet Joseph named the alleged culprit as Emma Sarley. DailyMail.com could not reach Sarley for comment.

A post on the company’s Facebook page announced the hiring of Sarley as Account Executive on Aug. 24.
A LinkedIn page, which has since been deactivated, also identified Sarley as an Enterprise Account Executive at Bevy.
Bevy did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.
