Early career[edit]
After arriving in the United States, Sevcec began working as a correspondent for the Spanish International Network. In 1986, Sevcec joined Telemundo, where he worked as a journalist and reporter for its network news. Sevcec was co-host and reporter for Ocurrio Asi in 1993 alongside Enrique Gratas.[2] He later hosted his own talk show, Sevcec, which ran from 1994 to 1999 when she was replaced by Laura en America.[3] Sevcec briefly returned to host Ocurrió Así in 1999 after his original host Enrique Gratas left Telemundo that year.
Noticiero Telemundo [ edit ]
In 2000, Sevcec became the main anchor for Noticiero Telemundo, where he remained for the next nine years. During that time, he interviewed numerous presidents and world leaders, including then-President George W. Bush. In September 2001, he and Fox News Channel’s Brit Hume were the only two reporters to attend President Bush’s first state dinner.[5]

On February 17, 2004, a bomb went off at an Iraqi school where Sevcec was filming a report on the school’s opening, without anyone being injured. Years earlier, he also survived a shootout between guerrillas and the military in El Salvador.
Sevcec was involved in the May 1, 2007 Mêlée in Los Angeles. In video footage of the incident, Sevcec can be seen running from oncoming police officers as his evening live broadcast was taking place. In an interview, he told how police officers beat women and children as they fled.
Departure from Telemundo[ edit ]
On December 16, 2009, Telemundo announced that Pedro Sevcec was replaced as host of Noticiero Telemundo’s nightly newscast with Jose Diaz-Balart, a veteran host and reporter. The Miami Herald reported that Telemundo replaced Sevcec as “part of a major new push at Telemundo toward news integration — not just between shows, but between the network’s broadcast, cable and digital operations.”
