NORMAN, Okla. – Monday’s gray, dreary skies did little to lift the spirits of dejected Sooner fans.

Many fans were still in disbelief at OU’s shock loss to Texas on Saturday.

Al Eschbach of Sports Animal radio station took calls Monday night from his remote location in Bob Moore Ford, south Oklahoma City.

“It’s unbelievable. I can’t believe we lost this game,” said one caller. “Even the Texan media, the Texan fans, no one chose Texas.”

“I bet Mack Brown even went for OU,” Eschbach said.

“So are Sooner fans and all dedicated fans, I think you’ll find the same in Notre Dame. I think you’ll find the same thing in Ohio State,” said psychologist Dr. Stuart Beasley.

dr Beasley says fans take losing so hard because they identify so strongly with the team; What happens to the team, happens to the fan.

“People are really tied into their identity, as is the team. If they win, we win,” said Dr. beasley

He says it’s important to maintain a healthy perspective.

“The world will not turn around or stay put because of what happened last Saturday in Dallas, Texas,” said Dr. beasley

A Monday night caller to Sports Animal clung to that common sense and looked forward rather than backward.

“It wasn’t our year to win the national championship anyway. If you drank that, you know, you probably smoked something too. Just relax, there’s still a chance to have a good season and possibly win the Big 12 championship,” the caller said.
