Former developer Karrin Taylor Robson mulling bid for 2022 guv’s race • Arizona Mirror
Karrin Taylor Robson, a developer and prominent Republican donor, could run as governor in 2022.
Robson told the Arizona Mirror he was encouraged to run a lot. He said he wasn’t going to say he was considering it, but admitted he didn’t rule it out.
“I want to keep all my options open as I change my life,” he said.
Robson is a member of the Arizona Board of Regents, and the founder and president of Arizona Strategies, a Phoenix -based land use strategy company. He was previously executive vice president for development company DMB Associates, and a land-use, zoning and development attorney at law firm Biskind, Hunt & Taylor. After leaving DMB in early 2016, he formed a consulting company and served as DMB lobbyist at the state Capitol until May 2019.
Robson is a member of the Kunasek family, a Republican political family with deep roots in Arizona. His father, Carl Kunasek, was president of the Arizona Senate and a member of the Corporation Commission. And his brother, Andrew Kunasek, is a member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
She is married to developer Ed Robson, the founder and president of Robson Communities.
“I have a long history. My family has been active in politics since before I was born, and I love this state,” Robson said. “Throughout life, you try to find the best place to give back your community and advance your community. That is what I have always done in my personal and professional life, and I see no reason to deviate from that course. ”
Although he has not yet made any decisions, Robson indicated that, if he runs, he will not rely on his own money to fund his campaign, at least not exclusively. He said whoever runs for office should generate enough support that people are willing to invest in their candidacy.
“You don’t want to just go there and do it yourself. You want the people affected by your decisions to have an investment in you,” she said.
Gov. Doug Ducey was re -elected to his second term in November, and will be removed in 2022. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich and Treasurer Kimberly Yee are also viewed by many as contenders for the Republican nomination.
This isn’t the first time Robson’s name has been floated for public office. He is on the list of candidates being considered for Ducey’s appointment to replace U.S. Sen. John McCain.
